Quick Question...Firebird SQL

  $sql = "SELECT * FROM
                  (CAREER,PEOPLE)
                  where PEOPLE.pid = CAREER.pid";

This is wrong, somehow...but how?  I'm stumpted...not a database guy at all.   >:(

nostra:
SELECT * FROM PEOPLE
INNER JOIN CAREER ON (PEOPLE."pid" = CAREER."pid")
