[SOLVED] Import from IMDB Not Working

What OS are you using? Are you using the latest versions of the program and the plugin? If so, try the "debug" version of the plugin posted here. Follow the instructions carefully, and post the data it collects back here.

Data1001:
Chiming in here -- haven't had time to do anything with PVD for over a month (maybe two or more, I forget), so I thought I'd test to see how the IMDb plugin worked for me. Starting up PVD for the first time in a while there were two things that came up in a window saying there were updates (scripting engine was one, I believe?), so I said yes and restarted PVD as per the next dialog box.

IMDb plugin worked fine for several movies (don't remember all the titles, but "Young @ Heart" was one), then I added some covers (using the IMPAwards, FilmUP and Amazon.com plugins), and some time after that -- perhaps immediately after that -- IMDb plugin stopped working (titles it could not grab info for include "The Wrestler")... it was only grabbing the URL, nothing else. Looked like the rest was downloading, but nothing was saved to the database.

Thinking I'd post my results here, I shut down PVD and restarted with the -debug function. However, now IMDb plugin was working again. Tried recreating my cover downloads, thinking maybe that had something to do with it, but IMDb plugin kept working. I was even able to grab full information for those titles which had not worked just minutes before.

Curious thing. Not sure if this helps anything, or just confuses the issue, but I thought I'd share my findings, nonetheless. Only thing I can think of that would be cause for intermittent import problems is an issue or restriction on IMDb.com's end of things, perhaps even a quota thing they've implemented? I'm just grasping at straws...

My IMDb plugin version is 0.9.3.8 and my PVD version is 0.9.9.21.

Not sure if the results of my debug session are useful, but I have attached that to this post as a text file. (Alas, I was not in debug mode when I momentarily was unable to DL from IMDb.)

What you describe does sound like an Internet problem. It's not uncommon for the IMDb to be too busy or have some other intermittent problem. They can prevent one or more items in a mass download to be skipped, but the download will continue (i.e., it truly is intermittent). Although I worry about the possibility, there's no evidence they're imposing any kind of controls to stop what we're doing.

I recommend using the -debug switch always. It doesn't hurt, and it means you'll always have a log if something strange happens.

I was actually thinking that maybe I'd start doing that, although at the same time I was trying to determine if the website queries ran slower when I was in debug mode. But I guess that basic logging procedures shouldn't affect the speed of anything within the application, eh?

If there were a difference, I'm sure you wouldn't be able to measure it.
