Videodb.info news
Lower the message I got from a former user of 10/2/2016 18:49
May 6, 2016 is an important date for PVD. It will either continue or die on that day...
https://who.is/whois/videodb.info
What will happen to this date, we can only speculate. It is possible that since then there shall be no more support for PDV. I hope that you are very wrong, but for some time there were no updates or patches for PVD program. The only exception is IMDB plugin. which is no longer fully operational after the last major change in the IMDB web pages. There is a high probability that the IMDB plugin will not be repaired and will not work on a lot of sadness for all of us users, which we love this program.

Nostra,
Please give PVD chance to survive. Give the code to community. Definitely there is no software out there that is more funcional than your phenomenal PVD.

You may get an answer, but do not expect too much.
I am Nostra sent several e-mail messages to several mail addresses and so far I have not received any response from Nostra.

I also agree with this request to do something with the program and not to let it die, please make public the source code on Github(thus giving the users the opportunity to maintain the code) or turn it into a paid version with continued support(personally, I would gladly pay to buy this software). I'm grateful for the time in which I could use this software until now and I want to thanks again to the developer for this, but it would be a pity to lose all the work done so far and all users to have to migrate to other solutions(because with the latest modifications on IMDB site the plugin is not working anymore and it became increasingly difficult to use the software).
Thank you and I hope the situation will improve soon!

omg, I'm devastated :o
I always admired the amount of effort put into this labour of love, the freeware project pvd.
I'm using it for many, many years now to manage my collection (24k db entries and >5gb btw).
even a little temporary inconvenience in the imdb plugin can ruin the day for me :)
and I always feared the day when it finally comes to an end. :(
I'm sorry that I cant code a single line and I have to give the people who can the sad puppy eyes routine ... pretty please ... anyone?
and is there anything I could do? a donation maybe? :(

Same here,
this is BAD NEWS really.
I have spent years polishing my pvd database, I have thousands of entries, the whole family is using it EVERY DAY and there is NOTHING out there that is comparable.
I have tried, believe me, many programs, from the well polished ones (XBMC, mediaportal) to the more techy ones (Extreme movie manager) and NONE of them do what pvd does.
Pvd has the right balance for me, between a nice enough interface and a great navigation tool (I can search, click, navigate, very easily).
I will write to Nostra, maybe we can pay him to get the code, I really don't care, I can spend money on this.
Ivek, do you have the necessary coding skills to maintain it or do we have to get someone else?
-
Just found another email address for Nostra and also sent a message to that one:
nostradamus.67@googlemail.com
And another catalog developed by him:

admin@smsw.info

Unfortunately I do not have this knowledge and therefore might come into question only the above-mentioned another option.

in case the videodb url expires and with it the forum and the only possibility to communicate disappears: let's swap email adresses.

I have just created a Google group, in case this site disappears:

Yesterday, I got this message, it will be interesting for other forum users.
It may not have been considered, but if Nostra doesn't renew the website, the domain name will be available to anyone who wants to buy it. The forum would have be recreated, but there are sites that specialize in forums, and are inexpensive ($14 / year with domain name or FREE without). https://www.proboards.com/
For that matter, anyone could probably just pay the domain registration before the deadline.

Today I have taken this to the Russian part of the Forum:
I'm in the last year talking to Nostra, he seemed to forget obeshal project. That is, it should extend the domain registration.
-
Some news are also available at this link:
https://github.com/mgpw4me/Video-Database/wiki
at the rate this person is developing vdos, I think it will be done in another year or two.
Also, if this domain does expire, it will usually go into a redeem phase where the owner can pay much higher value to redeem back the expired domain. Only after another 30 days when redeem period if over that it is open to public. However, a lot of domain companies will buy the domain up for 1 year hoping someone will offer higher price to buy back from them. Let's hope they don't do that to this domain.
In an case, I do have a reseller account for webhosting. I can offer free webhosting for the new forum or anything related site.

Excellent offer, thanks, abubin.
It would be nice even if they were even then there reach all the topics which are already in this forum.

OMG. This are bad news. Open Source would be a good way for the feature.
If this forum are dead please post infos on the google group.

Great!
still no good news about continuing pvd?
:'(
-
Yes i think there will be no new version comming.
-
Unfortunately. It looks like Kodi is the future, what ever.
I wish to Nostra best with his health, that is most important thing.
Great thanks for Ivek who keeps PVD alive.

I agree.

Thanks.
-
I think that we have PVdB (PDV) for long time if Ivek keep the communication alive. Thank you very much. (BTW I wish to Nostra best with his health, too).
I take the opportunity to tell my story for explain the first affirmation.
- Year 2003) My first player was a Kiss DP-500 and my database Excel
- Year 2008) Player 'WD TV HD Media Player Gen1' with a the ModFirmware B-RAD.CC_WDLXTV. It can navigate in the 'background.jpg' stored in the film folder. If you write the film info in the jpg you have a good player. ¿How do it? With TViXiE, it scrap and make the background (BTW, I still use the backgrounds in the film folder, it very useful in USB, even you can see in TV)
- Year 2011) XBMC arrives. It scrap and its easy to use, a good media player but it's slow in scrap, you must rebuild the bibliotheque and you can save the film info in the folder but it's difficult of update.
- Year 2013) >:( To much work for keep update my collection, TViXiE (and the scrapers fails), KODI, etc. ;D I landed to PVdB and I build my collection. What can i do?
I make my own scrapers http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php/topic,3876.msg19888.html#msg19888 (http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php/topic,3876.msg19888.html#msg19888) http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php/topic,3881.msg19414.html#msg19414 (http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php/topic,3881.msg19414.html#msg19414).
I make an PVdB export script for give the info to TViXiE and with a AutoHotKey script automatically I can rebuild all backgrounds with fresh info http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php/topic,3880.msg18295.html#msg18295 (http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php/topic,3880.msg18295.html#msg18295).
I make an PVdB export script for give to KODY the .nfo file, poster, fanart and I can refresh all info automatically and KODY only must charge from disc.http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php/topic,1496.msg18294.html#msg18294 (http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php/topic,1496.msg18294.html#msg18294)
And more ... I make an scraper that search the best films (rating and votes), compares with my collection and propose me the good film for not lose my time.
¡Long life for PVdB (PDV)!
PS: Ivek don't worry about the https issue. There is a roundabout: we can use a external program (I think in curl https://curl.haxx.se/ (https://curl.haxx.se/)) to download the page to a file and scrap it with PVdB.
-

That's what you want all users of this program.

Thanks for the info, but more on that in a new topic. You can find it at the following link:

Maybe someone knows a program similar to the Proxomitron (http://www.proxomitron.info/files/) and how it works, we can send via my e-mail (http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php/topic,4050.msg19580.html#msg19580) or publish it here.
I am currently working on this solution, which operates and Amazon plugins operate through 100% can not find all the posters, the vast majority of them. By the way, Amazon plugins should be corrected.
Rotten Tomatoes script not yet operational.
More on that when the greatest number of tests to make sure that everything is working properly. It will take some time to wait for the test results.

May 6, 2018 is an important date for PVD. It will either continue or die on that day...
https://who.is/whois/videodb.info
I'm currently waiting for this date above to see what this day will happen. So I apologize if I do not currently respond to your questions on the forum. If the forum continues to work after that date, I will continue to help keep PVD alive as far as I know and can give you the answer to your questions and requests.

Is a very bad news .. even we are few friends in the forum but ... "Prepare the worst and expect the best" say the Americans...
So I have opened a page in my blog about Personal Video Database: http://vvveasy.altervista.org/personal-video-database/ (http://vvveasy.altervista.org/personal-video-database/)
and in the nearest future I will publish the MOD version that I use with page download by external program (curl).
You can always warn me of failures in my scripts in the Contact Web: http://contactbyweb.com/vvv-easy (http://contactbyweb.com/vvv-easy)
On the other hand, "Internet Archive" keeps a copy of this forum, so we do not lose everything we have worked on:https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://videodb.info/ (https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://videodb.info/)
If the page is extinguished :'( , see you on the other side ;D
Forever, VVV_Easy

Today I'm on the "Internet Archive" saved some of the latest recordings pages for videodb.info forum. This will only be possible in the future for the memory of this forum if the time will no longer be extended for the domain.

Very, very good news. One year more for try to make one PVD MOD (patched with external download) or for the wished return of Nostra.
-
I'm sure PVD will survive somehow. Just like Proxomitron.

Probably, we will see, because where I have so far found news on this, this information is now unavailable due to the European Data Protection Regulation, which came into force at the beginning of summer this year.
If I'm going to get some news elsewhere, I'll be happy to announce how it will be in future with videodb.info web site.

It's good news. this is the 10th year since nostra abandoned the project and it is still alive at first to ivek! Thank you.
Would it be a good idea to put the info on the front page for a backup location when this site dies?

In this case, I am asking users who know how to make a backup of the entire forum at this Personal Video Database alternate Forum (http://mailmirdoch.net/) backup location or somewhere else to say so or even do it.

Apparently, December 9 left consequences on the forum. Users can no longer see the Reply button on the toolbar, and it is therefore not possible to post new comments. This may maybe only happen to certain users. Therefore, if there are any problems, you can send me in this email address.
