How do you download information at first?
Which plugins/scripts are you using?
PVD and Plugin\Script Versions?

Confirmed. I've only tested a few, but it seems the IMDb plugin is no longer downloading a poster. Following is a log of one attempt:

Using any of the last three URL's directly in a browser goes to the last one, and this is the "Photos" page with the poster selected. So this seems to be correct. And watching the status bar during the download leaves the impression a poster is being downloaded. But when it's done—no poster.

There is no error message because a record is found—this is just one piece of information it's not getting. I suppose this is yet another problem resulting from recent changes to the IMDb site. Hopefully, everything will be fixed in the next update to the plugin.

In the meantime, you can use one of the poster plugins, which usually provide much better quality posters anyway. I recommend using a batch file update where the IMDb plugin is run first, followed by a poster plugin. Set IMDb overwrite fields preference to get a poster if one does not exist, and the poster plugin to overwrite. That way, you should end up with the best available poster.

The IMDb poster is usually of poor quality because it's only intended to serve as a thumbnail. But I've found it can be useful as a starting point for finding a better quality poster. Install the TinEye Reverse Image Search (http://tineye.com/plugin) plugin to your browser. Click the IMDb URL in PVD to navigate to a movie page. Right-click on the poster thumbnail, and select "Search Image on TinEye." Sort the results list by "biggest image" to find the highest resolution matches. This is a very powerful because it's searching for other versions of the same image (based on a digital signature), rather than the movie title or image file name. If you prefer a different poster, click on the thumbnail to navigate to the photos page. Display the available poster images, and then search TinEye for the one you want. This works equally well for finding better quality photos for people.

It would be so nice to have a script that would automate this. ;)

That's IE for you... Did you see this note?

Quote
IE8 users must enable the "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer" security option to run the TinEye plugin. In the IE8 browser, go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Security, then check "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer" and restart the browser.

In addition to the IMDb plugin no longer getting posters (my previous post), the Amazon plugin is now returning the "No movies" error message. The URL that appears in the log seems to be correct—it produces a valid search results page with multiple posters. I doubt it's significant, but I note this URL is of the form...

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=dvd&field-keywords=Casablanca

whereas the form created by searching from the site is...

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_?url=search-alias%3Ddvd&field-keywords=casablanca&x=16&y=15

And now, i loose data. After i import data for movies, i completed some information, i save (Apply Changes). When i edit again, the info is gone...

What field are you trying to change?

Why do you think importing has anything to do with this? Even if I download to a movie in edit mode (something I wouldn't normally do), make changes and Apply Changes—everything is still there when I re-enter edit mode. Does the same thing happen with movies you have not just imported?

I am having problems with all the Amazon plugins. All return a "No movie Found" error. :(

This is from the log...
(26/7/2009 10:13:50 AM) Searching posters for: John Q
(26/7/2009 10:13:51 AM) GET: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=dvd&field-keywords=John+Q

Okay, everyone. I think we've established beyond any doubt the Amazon plugin is no longer working. Now please be patient and give nostra some time to investigate and update the plugin. In the meantime, you might want to try the IMPAwards plugin. It has better quality posters than Amazon anyway.

In the meantime, you might want to try the IMPAwards plugin.

The poster situation is getting worse by the day. :(

I'm now experiencing the "HTTP1.1 503 service unavailable" error with the IMPAwards plugin, as originally reported here (http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php?topic=1128.msg3989#msg3989). This is a result of being banned by Google. If previous experience holds, this means I will be unable to use the IMPAwards plugin for about 24 hours.

The plugin executes the following search...

http://www.google.com/search?q=allintitle:+TITLE+Poster+site:www.impawards.com&filter=0

I note I can still do the equivalent Web Search...

http://www.impawards.com/googlesearch.html?cx=partner-pub-6811780361519631%3A48v46vdqqnk&cof=FORID%3A9&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=TITLE

This results in an embedded Google search which is seems unaffected by the ban. (It passed my crude test of being fed about 30 queries in about 30 seconds.) I wonder if this suggests a way the plugin might be modified to resolve this problem.

If you are having a problem with IMPAwards plugin then might i suggest for the time being until nostra fixes our problem that you try the AllMovies plugin as it works but the quality is not as good as Amazon or IMPAwards.

Thanks, Moxley. The AllMovie posters are just thumbnail quality, but better than nothing.

Hi nostra,

I noticed the extracted dll for imdb has a date modified stamp of 1/07/2009. This matches the one I am overwriting.
The others (amazon ones) have new datestamp.
Version IMDB is reporting is .0901 is this correct.

edit
amazon.dll has datestamp of 21/06/2009.
amazonde.dll, amazonfr.dll, amazonuk.dll have a datestamp of 28/07/2009

Regards
PH

Everything I downloaded (about an hour ago) is date stamped 07/28/2009 and is the correct updated version. The download page has has not been updated to indicate the correct version and release date for the Plain Text export plugin, but the file is the updated version (0.6.0.1).

Thanks for the timely update!

I notice the amazon.com plugin still does nothing in Silent Mode, with or without Download all available images set. I'm expecting it to download the first poster, although I don't recall if it ever did this. What is it supposed to do?

Sometimes clearing browser cache solves such problems.

It actually never did. The problem here was the fact that search results always contain some posters not related to a movie the plugin is looking for.
In general: poster plugins only download images in silent mode if "Download all available images" is checked

Just to be clear, that's not working.

Quote
It actually never did [download the first poster]. The problem here was the fact that search results always contain some posters not related to a movie the plugin is looking for.

In the case of Amazon, the first search results page (I'm assuming this is where the plugin gets the thumbnails) normally places exact matches at the top of the page, and—there only being a few of these—the rest of the results are for box, sets, collections, or related movies. So Download all available images typically gets 6 - 8 posters, only 2 - 3 of which are correct. The efficiency of Silent Mode is outweighed by the need to delete the unwanted posters. I think it would be much better if Download all available images were replaced with the option to download the first N posters on the results page. I might then use Silent Mode with that set at 2 or 3, and be very confident I would get the best available poster, without too many unwanted ones.
