I cant download posters anymore. Is this still an issue??

Not with the IMDb plugin. Are you run Help > Check with updates to ensure you're using the current version? Is it configured to download images?

The IMPawards plugin isn't working, but it can be accessed manually via Web search if it matters. There are also a number of alternatives to IMDb for getting posters via a plugin.

I didn't have any results dialog but I did have silent on.

You didn't have any results dialog because you had silent mode on.

The search URL's in your log are fine. Are you getting a search results dialog? Is Silent Mode off?

+1. And/or paste from clipboard...

Yes, I've long wished for the ability to paste an image from the clipboard to any image place-holder in the program. That would be very versatile and a big time-saver. I actually wondered if this would also be an effective way to re-save an existing image sent to an external editor. But I thought it might be dangerous to assume what is copied to the clipboard is what the user wants to save. For example, if say I download an enormous poster, and use my external editor to resize it to screen size. After I do so, it will appear reduced in the editor, but it will not actually be resized until I save it. So I'd have to be careful to save before attempting to cut & paste it back to PVD. I can live with that, but are all editors the same in this regard? Maybe I worry too much. If cut & paste is an effective method for everyone for re-saving edited images, then maybe that's the way to go...

Add the option to send any image to a specified program (by double-click and/or button or context menu). Whether an image is "returning" from such a program after editing, or is a new image acquired from elsewhere (e.g., copied from a web page), it can be saved to PVD by pasting it from the clipboard. If it works, this would be a simple universal solution.

IMPawards not working: always "movies not found"

The plugin needs to be updated.

also, if you launch a websearch for the poster on http://www.movieposterdb.com/ no results given

Web Searches are user-maintained. Many of the sites have changed since the sample searches included in the program were created. MoviePosterDb is now...

The new addons report 14 blocked attacks within the last hour, so I hope that the amount of successful attacks will at least drop...

It seemed to work for a time, but now new spam accounts are being added at almost the same rate they were before. 25-30 have been added in the last 12 hours. :'(

That is promising.

But thousands remain, as indicated by there being no activity since registration.

It's much better with those gone. If you could isolate those with last activity within a few minutes of registration, many more could be deleted. Some of those would be real people, but if they registered, browsed for a few minutes, then never returned, the account may as well be deleted.

Also, if you can isolate accounts with signatures but no posts, those are very likely spam accounts (with links in the signatures).

I could not find a way to allow moderators to delete multiple accounts at once

I see you've deleted the obvious spam accounts. But thousands remain, as indicated by there being no activity since registration. Can you, as administrator, identify and mass delete those? I think you'll find many of those (mainly the ones created in recent weeks) will return and post spam. Also, just being rid of all those should make it easier to identify and deal with whatever gets by the new controls.

Have you considered using HTML Frames export template? Maybe svenne could add the filters you require, or explain a technique for doing something similar in your template.

Is it a feature that is likely to be added to the new version?

Only nostra sees the future. Seems like a rather obscure thing to me, but you haven't described the application.

would take time and patience for this, to clear the spam accounts and the accounts of all those users,

I don't believe anyone has the patience to delete to delete 60-70 accounts a day, one-at-a-time. It seems there is the ability to select and delete in bulk, but the power to do so may only be available to administrators. I've only commented on what needs to be done, not on whether the tools necessary can be granted to moderators.

If you're just using Barcode as a sort key, use Excel to append Title to Custom, and import that to Barcode.

Just another thought... Is it possible to copy the information I have entered into the custom field over to a standard field, for example I don’t use the Barcode field.

Yes. Export the custom field (along with Title and Year to identify the record), then import it to Barcode.

Feature Suggestions / Re: UK Date Errors

A minor annoyance I'll report now—in case it's somehow related...

[Date Added] includes the time (probably since raldo requested it for [Date Modified] for PvdImport...0.9.9.12). Any attempt to duplicate a record with a [Date Added] that includes the time results in the error...

Quote
conversion error from string "10/03/2011 04:35:26 PM"
Overflow occurred during data type conversion.
Error Code: 14.

Duplicate works fine when the time is removed.

The rate at which accounts are being created and spam posted is too great for me to keep up with. So I did little over the past week, in part to see what the result would be. Unfortunately, the spam posts that were in Version 1 [Testing] were deleted before I could count them. But there were lots—pages of new topics, I believe. Only a few were posted to other boards, which I deleted as they happened.

I've reviewed the new memberships over this period, and what I find is the same as before. New accounts are being added at about 70 per day. About 3 of these are legitimate users (as indicated by activity after registration) and maybe one of them will post.

My conclusion is the same as before. We could really use something more effective in preventing spam accounts from being created. And unless that's highly effective, moderators need the ability to identify and mass delete accounts with no activity. If nothing can be done to stop the accounts from being created, deleting them all regularly (i.e., daily) would keep the membership clean and greatly reduce the number of spam posts (most spammers first create an account, then return later to add links and/or post spam).
