Sorry, I forgot you have to add the -debug switch to get that. Make a (or edit your existing) shortcut for the program. Right-click on the shortcut, select Properties, and add "-debug" to the end of the target string. It should look something like:

"C:\Program Files\Personal Video Database\viddb.exe" -debug

Been using "PVD version 0.9.8.20" on Windows Vista for last 3 weeks, no problems.

Today I get error message "No movies found :(" when I try to import any movie information from IMDB.

I've tried this for movies that I've catalogued before but receive same error message.

I've tried the new beta version, previous versions, but to no success.

Importing movie information from Allmovie.com working fine.

Could source of problem lie with the IMDB site itself?

Welcome to the forum, omally. Yes, that's certainly what your information points to. Does it work now? If not, please restart the program with the -debug switch, try again, and post your log.

It's not at all clear to me what you are having difficulty with. Does the attached help?

Thanks, Wanny. Welcome to the forum.

Existing movies will update, because the plugin is using the URL to go directly to the movie page. Without a URL, the search is immediately failing—thus "No movies found." It seems there must have been a change to the search part of the website that has "broken" the plugins (for both versions of the program). If so, nostra will have to update them.

Nostra?

Hi, I´m just having the same problem that Wanny. I have installed the 0.9.8.20 version and download the last IMDB plugin, (november 14th I think).

Any news of updates??

Thanks!

If my diagnosis is correct, we'll have to wait for nostra to fix it. If my diagnosis is wrong, we'll have to wait for nostra to figure out what's wrong, and fix that. ;)

In the meantime, existing movies should still update correctly. To add a new movie, you could use New (rather than New Movie Master), navigate to the IMDb movie page using Web Search), copy the URL and paste it into the URL field, then run the update.

I know. Hopefully it will be fixed soon. :-\

Using ADD I managed to get 2 movies from IMDB by pressing the import icon but still fails on most? Amazon posters still not working. IMDB was playing up for days then worked perfectly the day before yesterday. Now it is not. Maybe it is not a plugin problem? Amazon has never been a problem before.

Yes, your experience (and mine) suggest an intermittent problem with IMDb (i.e., something we can probably do nothing about). But that obviously doesn't explain why you're also having problems with amazon.

Just checking... both IMDb and amazon are still working fine for me.

If anyone experiences the "no movies found" problem while running 0.9.9.3, please post your log. The new log is much more detailed and may include some clues as to what is going on.

There seem to be smth changes on IMDB that prevent the plugin from working properly. I'll try to fix the plugin until Sunday.

Thanks. Fix much appreciated.

Slight problem though with updated imdb plugin on download page. Using "PVD version 0.9.8.20" on Windows Vista.

Problem:
Updated IMDB plugin from download page doesn't download rating and doesn't download tv series (displays one page but not episodes)

Good News:
Then I tried the plugin you suggested for beta version, still using "PVD version 0.9.8.20"
http://www.videodb.info/bin/plugins/imdb0872.zip

PVD now working successfully; displays rating and tv series.

Please download fixed plugins from the download page.
Am I correct in assuming the installer has not been updated?

I'm just getting a couple of other people to use PVD so want to give them the correct instructions

I am now getting this problem albeit intermittently, does some films but then the error comes up for others.

I have backed up, deleted and reinstalled PVD, and also downloaded the plug ins and drag and dropped the .dll file in to the PVD folder directly, but still have the same problem "no file found", any other suggestions please  :)

Any ideas?

Strange, but I can not reproduce problems with imdb and amazon with new plugins.
There is a file called page.html in PVD directory if you start the program with -debug parameter and try to download information and/or poster that contains the last HTML page retrieved. Could you send this file to me?

hi wanny,
download the zip file, unzip it and copy it in the plugins folder of the PVD software.

hope it helps.

Awesome.  Thanks for the tips!

So it all works except for the lack of IMDB rating.

Rating and episodes issue fixed for version 0.9.8. Get it from the download page.

P.S. The installation package will be updated in approx. 30 minutes.

Your previous messages indicate you're running 0.9.8.20, but you're quoting the plugin update for 0.9.9.3 beta. If you installed that, that may cause a crash. The updated plugin for 0,9,8.20 is on the download page.

I delete that plugin (the one of the 0.9.9.3) and download the plugin of the download page and copy in the plugin folder, so I think that now I´m using the last plugin of the 0.9.8.20 version.
Still dont work (but at least it doesnt crash!  :)).

What, exactly, is it doing? Still getting the "No movies found" message? Can you update an existing movie? Will the same movie update if you delete the URL?

I think that i´m going to wait to the new version of PVD and new IMBD plugin, uninstall everything and start from zero again...what do you think?

You mean, "Give up"? Sorry, not allowed. ;)

It works for me—using 0.9.9.3. Maybe the 0.9.8.20 version of the plugin needs to be updated.

It seems like all amazon plugins need to be updated, but the strange thing is: you are the only one with this problem!? Are you using some software that could influence incoming traffic?

Log file atttached.

No, I am not using software that could influence incoming taffic.

I am wondering whether or not Internet Explorer has something to do with it? If I open page.html on its own, I get an activeX warning. I tried allowing activeX but then IE spits the dummy everytime it starts, warning me my security is not safe... Amazo.de still did not work though

The new IMDB plugin has addressed the issues that i was having with the "movies not found" error.

What i have found with the new IMDB plugin is that it does not import all of the seasons/episodes for a TV series when i add it to PVD.  I reverted to the previous versiojn of the IMDB plugin and it all seems to be working fine.  I have attached a log when using the new version of the IMDB plugin and trying to import episodes for a tv series.

Here´s my log, thanks nostra.
Still no movies found :(

...
20/12/2008 02:12:46 p.m.: Plugin loaded: imdb.dll 0.8.7.0
20/12/2008 02:12:46 p.m.: Plugin loaded: imdb_people.dll 0.2.1.8

You're using the beta versions of the plugins. Please use the plugins from the download (http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php?action=down) page.

Also, when testing plugins, please make sure Silent mode is off.

20/12/2008 9:05:17 PM: PVD Version: 0.9.8.20
...
20/12/2008 9:05:17 PM: Plugin loaded: imdb.dll 0.8.4.1
20/12/2008 9:05:17 PM: Plugin loaded: imdb_people.dll 0.2.1.6
...

Welcome to the forum, Daniel.

There seems to be some confusion around which plugins to use, and there still may be issues we haven't isolated, so please clarify... It appears you are using the updated versions of the plugins for 0.9.8.20. So I assume the "new IMDB plugin" you tried was from this message:

Please download fixed plugins from the download page.

For the beta you will need these:
http://www.videodb.info/bin/plugins/imdb0872.zip
http://www.videodb.info/bin/plugins/imdb_people0218.zip

Emphasis mine. ;)

Thanks. Using "Survivor" as a test case, I can see the 0.9.8 version seems to be behaving strange/inconsistently. The first time it only downloaded the head record—as if it were a movie. I ran it again with that record selected, and it added all the seasons/episodes. I deleted season one, and tried to download it again—but could not. I deleted all the episodes (so it was just a root movie record again) and ran it again. Only one or two episodes per season were added. After deleting the series and restarting the program, I was able to repeat this sequence of events.

Trying the same things using the 0.9.9 version, everything worked as expected.

I've been using it all day without problems. Right now, it doesn't work at all—all attempts result in "No movies found" message. That seems to suggest an intermittent problem with the website, but it works normally my browser. I can copy the URL's the PVD log and paste them into my browser—and they go to a valid poster page. ???

I was just about to report the "No Movies Found" glitch, when I came across this thread.  Not only did the new plugins fix that, now I am able to download info on first seasons of series!

A truly magnificent program, as well as the people developing it.  My hat's off to you.

There isn't one, which perhaps shouldn't be a surprise. The page referenced in the log is correct, so if it had downloaded that it should have worked. Right?

that's strange, as there should be at least the previously downloaded page. The program does not overwrite this file if nothing was downloaded...

I have a versioned backup of my PVD folder from about 32 hours ago. It has no page.html file, meaning there has never been one at the time this semi-weekly backup has been run since I installed 0.9.9.3. Multiple versions of it do exist in my backup directories for versions 0.9.8 and 0.9.9.1. I know the last IMPAwards download that appears in the backup log file was successful, because it was a poster that exists there, but not on amazon.

Maybe the missing page.html file is a separate/irrelevant issue. It is saved by version 0.9.8. Attached is that page.html file (with extension changed to TXT) after doing the same download as in 0.9.9.3—the log of which indicates it's getting http://www.impawards.com/2005/sin_city_ver2.html. The two are quite different—most notably in that page.html does not include the poster that does exist at the URL (although I don't know how it should look). I see from the source the poster for that page is http://www.impawards.com/2005/posters/sin_city_ver2.jpg. Is that where the plugin is looking?

I'm also getting this a lot now with impawards. Using PVD 0.9.8.20. The Impawards site itself looks different now. Could this have something to do with that?

The Impawards site itself looks different now. Could this have something to do with that?

Yes, I think it might. Thanks for that observation. I thought it must be different, but I hadn't looked at it for a long time.

BTW, as an alternate for when amazon fails (this is how I use IMPAwards), I've found MoTechPosters (http://posters.motechnet.com) to be very good. My Web search for it is...

Code: [Select]
http://www.google.com/custom?domains=posters.motechnet.com&sa=Google+Search&sitesearch=posters.motechnet.com&q=%s%u
Its posters are saved as "../covers/[IMDb page code]_largeCover.jpg," so I'm hoping we get an IMDb page code variable for use with Web search some day. Also, given the simplicity of the site design, it might be a good candidate for a download script.

I got this error using the IMPAwards plugin:

Code: [Select]

01/24/2009 02:29:25 AM: HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable

The Google "Sorry" page says:

We're sorry... but your query looks similar to automated requests from a computer virus or spyware application. To protect our users, we can't process your request right now.

We'll restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again soon. In the meantime, if you suspect that your computer or network has been infected, you might want to run a virus checker or spyware remover to make sure that your systems are free of viruses and other spurious software.

If you're continually receiving this error, you may be able to resolve the problem by deleting your Google cookie and revisiting Google. For browser-specific instructions, please consult your browser's online support center.

Reading Google Help (http://www.google.com/support/websearch/bin/answer.py?answer=86640) about this, it seems my IP address has been banned from making "automated queries." Deleting all Google cookies didn't make any difference.

If you do many searches google really blocks the queries. It seems like it is enough to wait a couple of hours to remove the ban.

Post by: rick.ca on January 24, 2009, 10:15:48 pm
That's what I would have thought from reading the help page, but the plugin search is redirected first time, everytime. I wasn't doing any searches before, and the ban (if that's the problem) isn't been removed in time. This started 12 hours ago; three days ago it worked fine.

Doing a search from IMPAwards, I noticed the Google site search results are now embedded in the IMPAwards page, rather than a separate Google page. Thinking the recent site redesign may have caused this problem, I made a Web search based on the current search URL...

Code: [Select]
http://www.impawards.com/googlesearch.html?cx=partner-pub-6811780361519631%3A48v46vdqqnk&cof=FORID%3A9&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=%s%u
I saw some promise in the fact a partner id is now used, where it wasn't before (i.e., maybe referrals from partners are not banned). Indeed, the web search works flawlessly, while the same plugin searches continue to fail. So this seemed like the solution, but then I tried the search URL the plugin is using as a web search...

Code: [Select]
Plugin search:
http://www.google.com/search?q=allintitle:[Title]+Poster+site:www.impawards.com&filter=0

Web search:
http://www.google.com/search?q=allintitle:+site:www.impawards.com+Poster+%s%u

It works flawlessly too. It's necessarily a little different than the plugin search, but I doubt that makes any difference.

Since deleting Google cookies makes no difference, I tried the plugin with Anonymizer—still no change. The problem is the same in both 0.9.8 and 0.9.9. And with that, I'm stumped. I can't imagine how Google is banning queries specifically from PVD, without using cookies and without my IP address. :(

I figured the only solution to my aggrevating problem is reinstalling the system and so i did
I managed to d/l one poster from IMP till I saw this:
HTTP1.1 503 service unavailable

damn it

At least now it's evident we have the same problem. :-\

And this seems to be true. As you can see from my last post, I could not work around the ban. When I tried the plugin now (for the first time since my last post), it worked fine. Apparently, the ban had been lifted.

So I ran it on a batch of movies, thinking that is the sort of thing Google is sensitive to. Sure enough, it found two posters, then returned the error on the third. But my log (attached) shows some odd behaviour by the plugin. After the first two movies, it executed the GET for the third 50 times in 44 seconds! No wonder Google banned me. :o

What do you think, nostra?

The problem is in the main application. It searches using original title first and takes title if nothing found by original title. Unfortunately if nothing found using title PVD does not stop, but searches again because of a mistake in the code.

I am sorry for this.
The problem will be fixed as soon as possible.

Please note you'll still experience the problem nostra has just found and not yet fixed—I assume the bug exists in both 0.9.8 and 0.9.9. When it happens, Google will ban you. I'm not sure how long the ban lasts—I see I'm still banned since my test of a little over 24 hours ago. So maybe restarting your router fixed some other problem, but I wonder if all you've been experiencing is due to this bug.

AFAIK, however, this bug consistently results in the "HTTP1.1 503 service unavailable" error. If you look in your log, you'll see this is a resulted of being redirected to the Google "sorry" page—the "ban." If you find this not to be the case, or you get invalid "No movies found" messages, please post your log.

If korbenPL uses a dynamic IP address supplied via DHCP then restarting the router could mean that a new IP address was allocated via DHCP and the new IP address would not (for now) be blocken by Google??!!

...hope this helps!

btw. I'm suffering from IMP withdrawal too!!

I've got dynamic IP provided.
every now and then the search gets 'stuck' on google before proceeding to IMP and the error pops up. so I get up. restart my router and keep searching for more posters from one and only IMPAwards. this quick 'fix' works for me and even though i'm aware of the faulty premise I just dont care any more ;)

I seem to be having a problem downloading posters from the IMPAwards site.  I cannot see anything apparent in the log but i get the "no movies found" message and no poster will download after selecting the movie from the list that pops up twice.  I tried the same movie in the beta version and it all works fine.  see log below

The IMPAwards plugin needs to be updated. The problem is that I have only written an update for 0.9.9.X beta.
An update for 0.9.8.20 will be available as soon as possible.

Is there an update for the IMPAwards plugin yet? (I'm using 0.9.9.x )

I'm getting the google error...

eg:
GET: http://www.google.com/search?q=allintitle:+The+Big+Lebowski+Poster+site:www.impawards.com&filter=0
Redirected to: http://sorry.google.com/sorry/?continue=http://www.google.com/search%3Fq%3Dallintitle:%2BThe%2BBig%2BLebowski%2BPoster%2Bsite:www.impawards.com%26filter%3D0
HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable

BTW, thanks much for this awesome application  :D

Welcome to the forum, pinch.

As you probably read above, this is a result of your IP address being banned by Google. It seems the ban is normally lifted within 24 hours. I assumed the error (repeating GET requests) that causes this had being fixed in 0.9.9.5—it's not happening to me (yet). But I don't use it regularly—I only just tested it now. Do you still have a log (it's replaced each time the program is started) that might indicate exactly what caused the ban?

I seem to be able to use IMPAwards again without problems... I've snagged 15+ so far. I wonder if Google unbans your IP after a bit if you don't keep hammering away with queries. I have a pretty good number of posters I need (initial db import) so I'll see if I get re-banninated. :-\

If you do, please post your log so we can see what's causing it.

I mainly use IMPawards/ For the first time I observed it ca. 2 weeks ago...
It says: no movies found YET the poster is there...it happens when there's only one poster available or so it seems...
strange, isn't it? ;)

+ can I set it to d/l normal posters only? the extra large dialogue box is not used by me....

No, there is no such possibility
