Post by: nostra on April 12, 2013, 09:11:56 pm
This is a release candidate. If this version does not contain any major issues, then I will replace the current 0.9. with it as an official stable release and stop 0.9.x support.

Hi Nostra, first of all, thanks, and a very personal thanks for supporting the hidden MID within links (http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php/topic,3158.msg15409.html#msg15409), now. :)

Somehow things looked strange after installing over the old version ("Also known as" disappeared, for example). That surely was due to some strange settings or modifications to the skin of mine. So if someone experiences such things: I uninstalled the old version with all settings completely (after backing up all modified templates, skins and the database, of course) and did a fresh install. It looks fine, now.

But there is a bug (that was not present in 1.0.2.3): "Audio Codec" and "Languages" are eliminated from the stream information and those fields now appear next to "Last modified". These fields are empty, but provide a drop-down list. If you edit a movie entry both fields disappear afterwards from the main window and language and codec information vanish completely. See image attached...

Ups, I have tested stuff with classic skin and forgot to make those changes back. Please, just download the skin from the download page and it should work ok.

Thanks a lot! Works fine with the skin from the download page.
I adapted the "HTML Frames" and "HTML List" (http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php/topic,1844.msg16663.html#msg16663) export templates to PVD version 1.0.2.5, now.

But now for real! ;) A bug...
Some movie posters get partially transparent. Seems to happen when blocks within a JPG are absolutely flat in colour. See first attachment. Here, the flat black areas are affected. It's a normal jpg without any transparency added. When saved the image seems to be fine (see second attachment).

It does not happen here. Have you changed the skin somehow?
Title: Re: 1.0.2.5 Release Candidate
Post by: svenne on April 14, 2013, 09:27:22 am
No, I didn't change the skin. But I found out that the images look well when resized by PVD (in a small window, for example). Transparency only happens if the image is shown in its full dimensions. It's also visible after double click in "full picture view".
Title: Re: 1.0.2.5 Release Candidate
Post by: svenne on April 14, 2013, 02:00:22 pm
Solved this one. It didn't happen in 1.0.2.3. The classic skin from download page seems to be outdated. It differs from the one that came with 1.0.2.3. I switched to the one from the beta version and it looks fine, now.

Other things...

- don't know if I do anything wrong, but no matter which export plugin I set to default: after restart PVD always switches to "Export to Mediaportal" (in export drop down list) while the "Execute default export plugin"-button stays with "Export to plain text".

- if I widen the movie list on the left of the window a little bit (by dragging the right border further to the right), after restart of PVD the "Also known as" field disappears completely or is very, very narrow. Only happens in full screen. When windowed, after restart the field is there again (or in full screen if the right border of the movie list was moved back to the left prior to restart). It only happens while looking at movies on top of the list. When restartet with a movie further down near the bottom of the list, everything seems ok. Same behaviour in 1.0.2.3. In 0.9.9.21 it's better: it only happens if the border is moved to the far right (which is not possible in 1.0.2.x) before restart. Only "Also known as" is affected, no matter how far I pull the border. It is difficult to reproduce with less than 1600 movie entries in 1.0.2.x and with less than 500 in PVD 0.9.9.21. My screen resolution is 1280 in width, maybe that matters.
Title: Re: 1.0.2.5 Release Candidate, Screenshot Maker
Post by: Kahm on April 14, 2013, 11:41:43 pm
I think I found a rather peculiar change (bug?). In the preferences I set it to make 20 screenshot and take one as a poster. Well I guess that is now literally. I get 19 screenshots and the 20th is the poster. Intentional?
It is easy to work around by simply setting it to 21 screenshots so that you get one poster and 20 screenshots, but it was different in the previous version.

I think I found a bug  :D.

When I choose 'No Poster' form filters pulldown menu a parameter is set, but there is no indicator as well I can turn it off only from toolbar.

Same thing with other radiobutton options, but 'No cover' sets 'No screenshot' at toolbar and vice versa.

That is not all ;-D Advanced filters dialog opens when I change anything in pulldown menu.

Bug report... two cosmetic ones:

- while in full screen or in a big window with "Import" in toolbar near the right side of the window: if you click the button "Set overwrite options for selected plug-in" a menu pops up where buttons (on the right of the menu) are not visible.

- when you switch between people und movie view the window title (of the PVD window itself) should change from "Movies" to "People" and vice vera. Most of the time it does not do so, sometimes it shows both mixed up/overlayed. It only changes/refreshes when you resize the window or give focus to another program.

Hi,

I tried to install without success! "An error occured in the application". I am using Window 8 Pro 64 bits. I started "pvd_rc_setup.exe" with and without "Run as administrator" results are the same. Other versions 0.9.9.21 and 1.0.2.3 works without any problems! See the attachment.

P.S. Is there a portable version for this release?

Could you please send the bug report itself and the screenshot of it! What is actually FxContextMenu64.exe it does not seem to a part of Personal Video Database! It seems to me that it is not PVD at all causing the problem, but some other App named FxContextMenu64...

Thank you Nostra. You are right, I started the installation from another "file explorer" and everything works great! I'm sorry for this.

Thanks for this nice software.

Bug found:

you can't move the scroll bar past a point so you can see the long named movies more easily on the list.

The red arrow illustrates the max point where the scroll bar can be pulled to the right side.

Graphic bug on PVD VinT skin: the ratings appear corrupted sometimes, the graphic bug can be fixed by editing movie or selecting another movie.

In this version, too, auto hidden task bar wouldn't show up over PVD maximized.

What do you mean?
Title: Re: 1.0.2.5 Release Candidate
Post by: afrocuban on April 20, 2013, 10:48:19 pm
Actually, it's worst. Once PVD started, SOMETIMES no other program could be brought in front of PVD's window (by Alt+Tab, for instance, nor clicking on it's icon on a taskbar), until PVD's window is minimized by user, no matter if PVD's window is maximized or resized.

If Windows option to auto hide taskbar is checked, If PVD is maximized I can't invoke taskbar by moving cursor to the lower edge of screen, so I have to press WIN button on a keyboard to invoke it.

It was the same with PVD 1.0.23 beta

Sorry for my English.

This is very strange. I have never heard about such behavior before and it definitely is not happening here. Maybe you use the pvdtotray plugin. Try removing it from PVD\Plugins directory. If it does not help, then post some screenshots of your desktop.

Removed pvdtotray.dll long time ago, sam thing again. Using Win7, used WinXP, same thing again with 1.x versions. No such problem with v.9x. (Both versions installed, neither portable)

First of all Nostra - Thanks for  great piece of software.  Just new to it but find it really really useful.  I think I may have discovered a slight bug in the RC - when I import movie information from IMDB, all the plot keywords (tags) are no longer imported - only the few that are shown on the unexpanded list on  the IMDB website.  I have configured the IMDB plug-in to import all tags but doesn't seem to work in the RC.  Great piece of kit though.  ;D

The problem with keywords is fixed in IMDB Plugin version 0.9.8.18, let me know if there are other issues.

Thanks Nostra - all keywords now importing again after updating to IMDB plugin to .18

Tested zipped version on two XP SP3 machines with different antivirus.
In one of them (with Comodo Internet Security) IMDB plugin does not update. The program checks and acts normally, but when it restarts IMDB plugin is still .17 version. I suppose it has something to do with Comodo but couldn't find an explanation looking through the settings.

A little bug: The Exit option on the Personal Video Database menu does nothing at all.

Something that annoys me: I hate mouse, but I couldn't find a way to access some options without it (the right click options, the main menu). ¿Is it just my silliness -again- or a design thing?. If it is the second option I would really appreciate a way to use the keyboard.

Title: Re: 1.0.2.5 Release Candidate
Post by: afrocuban on April 29, 2013, 11:09:44 pm
I don't know if it's bug, but some movies need incredibly much more time to get data from IMDb with this RC (to "get through /technical"), than with the 0.9.x version (or it's updating the database in issue in this case?). It's like minute or so with RC per some movies, unlike dozen of seconds with 0.9.x version, no matter how many times to retrieve data for the same movie.

Both versions installed on the same machine, and the movie is Tron: Legacy (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1104001/)

Well, it is not really a bug. I have change the whole movie/person comparisons to use URLs first and as URLs are not indexed as Titles and Names the whole process takes much longer. I will take a look at this and will maybe change it back to the way it was.

Right. Just a fatal flaw. ;D

Just musing...I wonder how many issues would be resolved if the program indexed and used URLs from a designated primary source (the obvious choice for most users being the IMDb). The first step in any process of adding records would be to get the correct URL/key. Records not represented at the source could be assigned an internal key included in the same index.

A bug, I guess... But some very minor thing: The tool tip for the folder symbol next to "File Path:" says "Always show". That doesn't make sense to me. ???
Title: Re: 1.0.2.5 Release Candidate
Post by: svenne on May 22, 2013, 10:18:36 am
And another thing... In version 0.9.9.x the file import provided quite a lot of details for the audio and video streams. Something like "XviD" or "DivX3" or, for Audio, "MPEG-1 Audio layer 3". With version 1.0.2.5 it only says "MPEG-4 Visual" instead of "XviD", "DivX3 Low" and alikes and "MPEG Audio" instead of "MPEG-1 Audio layer 3" or "MPEG-1 Audio layer 2", ect. Is that on purpose?

I can confirm this. I am using Windows 7 x64 and have the task bar on the right side but the outcome is the same. If you set the task bar to auto hide (what I normally don't do  ;D) and maximize PVD there is no chance to access the task bar.

i am now on pvd classic tabs skin and working fine
Title: Re: 1.0.2.5 Release Candidate

I suggest that you replace the classic skin by a fresh downloaded version and check again. I once ago changed one field in the classic skin and had the same effekt. The custom fields were gone. I replaced a standard field in the main section by a custom field to achieve that.
So even if you did not hassle with the skin, it may have gone corrupt any other way.

This is a bit strange because the custom fields should be visible in customsection field in the skin. In this case, custom fields is are not displayed (the pvd_classic_movie skin has a errors). I found that quite a few errors (pvd_classic_movie skin).

Proper functioning pvd_classic_movie skin is attached.

ok i think there is something corrupt at my end.

i noticed that my database with 15 movies and 10 screen shots for each movie is currently at 600mb.

so i uninstalled pvd and deleted my database i then started the database again and at the same point 15 movies and 6 screen shots and the size is now at 426mb still way to high

In this part of the code, for example, can not find this one bit of code for a custom field,
Code: [Select]
<customsection><color>$EAEAEA</color></customsection> and what is in the wrong part of the skin (see attached picture).

I installed PVD, updated all components and seem to have the correct skin. As stated above, there ist no difference compared to the version you posted.

If that is correct, people just have to use the update function and the skin should be ok.

Another question for that topic. If you use a custom section in a skin, all custom fields will be filled in dynamically. I used a custom field explicitly in a standard section and in that case the custom section did not show up at all.

Is that on purpose or is it a bug?

Of course, that then there is no difference in the skin, because the skin is replaced in the modernization of all components.

Appendix:

To prove that the defects in the skin, which have been described above,  (http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php/topic,3326.msg16967.html#msg16967)attach
pvd_classic_movie-no correct skin in zip format.

Thanks for the defect skin. Now I could the differences. So as I proposed before, affected users should run the updates.

Can you tell me something about the following phenomenon?

If you have done the above mentioned ever before, they were only visible custom fields that you have added to the standard section, other custom fields have remained invisible.
This is not a bug, that's just a fact.
Once you add at least one custom field in any skin that are available, or you create yourself, you should also add any other custom fields in the skin, if you want to also remained custom fields also remain visible.

Thanks Ivek,

that is what I thought. If you address one custom field directly you have to address all custom fields directly.

I find the new look (toolbar) very confusing and chaotic.
I prefer standard main menu and button toolbars.

Hi! I Just installed this version but when I open my database from the 0.9 release, it wouldn't show. It's just a blank database. I have over 2000 titles and I wouldn't want to start all over again.. :( Please help.

What does it state at the bottom of the windows? How many movies and visible movies?
Check if you have any filters turned on.

The Toolbar is there and is pretty much same as the old one. You can access most of the menus by right clicking the Tabs or by clicking on "Personal Video Database" button at the top left corner.

No movies. The bottom part say 0 movies and 0 visible. The filters are all set to "all".

Something that annoys me: I hate mouse, but I couldn't find a way to access some options without it (the right click options, the main menu). ¿Is it just my silliness -again- or a design thing?. If it is the second option I would really appreciate a way to use the keyboard.

Well, it was my silliness I guess.
I use a modified version of PVD Download Manager skin, and the problem were the repeated accelerators. Perhaps the explanation could help some other.
