Videodb.info news

Lower the message I got from a former user of 10/2/2016 18:49

Quote
May 6, 2016 is an important date for PVD.  It will either continue or die on that day...

https://who.is/whois/videodb.info

What will happen to this date, we can only speculate. It is possible that since then there shall be no more support for PDV. I hope that you are very wrong, but for some time there were no updates or patches for PVD program. The only exception is IMDB plugin. which is no longer fully operational after the last major change in the IMDB web pages. There is a high probability that the IMDB plugin will not be repaired and will not work on a lot of sadness for all of us users, which we love this program.

Nostra,

Please give PVD chance to survive. Give the code to community. Definitely there is no software out there that is more funcional than your phenomenal PVD.

I also agree with this request to do something with the program and not to let it die, please make public the source code on Github(thus giving the users the opportunity to maintain the code) or turn it into a paid version with continued support(personally, I would gladly pay to buy this software). I'm grateful for the time in which I could use this software until now and I want to thanks again to the developer for this, but it would be a pity to lose all the work done so far and all users to have to migrate to other solutions(because with the latest modifications on IMDB site the plugin is not working anymore and it became increasingly difficult to use the software).

Thank you and I hope the situation will improve soon!

omg, I'm devastated :o
I always admired the amount of effort put into this labour of love, the freeware project pvd.
I'm using it for many, many years now to manage my collection (24k db entries and >5gb btw).
even a little temporary inconvenience in the imdb plugin can ruin the day for me :)
and I always feared the day when it finally comes to an end. :(
I'm sorry that I cant code a single line and I have to give the people who can the sad puppy eyes routine ... pretty please ... anyone?
and is there anything I could do? a donation maybe? :(

 Same here,
this is BAD NEWS really.
I have spent years polishing my pvd database, I have thousands of entries, the whole family is using it EVERY DAY and there is NOTHING out there that is comparable.
I have tried, believe me, many programs, from the well polished ones (XBMC, mediaportal) to the more techy ones (Extreme movie manager) and NONE of them do what pvd does.
Pvd has the right balance for me, between a nice enough interface and a great navigation tool (I can search, click, navigate, very easily).

I will write to Nostra, maybe we can pay him to get the code, I really don't care, I can spend money on this.
Ivek, do you have the necessary coding skills to maintain it or do we have to get someone else?

Unfortunately I do not have this knowledge and therefore might come into question only the above-mentioned another option.

Yesterday, I got this message, it will be interesting for other forum users.

Quote
It may not have been considered, but if Nostra doesn't renew the website, the domain name will be available to anyone who wants to buy it.  The forum would have be recreated, but there are sites that specialize in forums, and are inexpensive ($14 / year with domain name or FREE without).  https://www.proboards.com/

For that matter, anyone could probably just pay the domain registration before the deadline.

at the rate this person is developing vdos, I think it will be done in another year or two.

Also, if this domain does expire, it will usually go into a redeem phase where the owner can pay much higher value to redeem back the expired domain. Only after another 30 days when redeem period if over that it is open to public. However, a lot of domain companies will buy the domain up for 1 year hoping someone will offer higher price to buy back from them. Let's hope they don't do that to this domain.

In an case, I do have a reseller account for webhosting. I can offer free webhosting for the new forum or anything related site.

I think that we have PVdB (PDV) for long time if Ivek keep the communication alive. Thank you very much. (BTW I wish to Nostra best with his health, too).

I take the opportunity to tell my story for explain the first affirmation.

I make my own scrapers http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php/topic,3876.msg19888.html#msg19888 (http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php/topic,3876.msg19888.html#msg19888) http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php/topic,3881.msg19414.html#msg19414 (http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php/topic,3881.msg19414.html#msg19414).

I make an PVdB export script for give the info to TViXiE and with a AutoHotKey script automatically I can rebuild all backgrounds with fresh info http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php/topic,3880.msg18295.html#msg18295 (http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php/topic,3880.msg18295.html#msg18295).

I make an PVdB export script for give to KODY the .nfo file, poster, fanart and I can refresh all info automatically and KODY only must charge from disc.http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php/topic,1496.msg18294.html#msg18294 (http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php/topic,1496.msg18294.html#msg18294)

And more ... I make an scraper that search the best films (rating and votes), compares with my collection and propose me the good film for not lose my time.

¡Long life for PVdB (PDV)!

PS: Ivek don't worry about the https issue. There is a roundabout: we can use a external program (I think in curl https://curl.haxx.se/ (https://curl.haxx.se/)) to download the page to a file and scrap it with PVdB.

Maybe someone knows a program similar to the Proxomitron (http://www.proxomitron.info/files/) and how it works, we can send via my e-mail (http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php/topic,4050.msg19580.html#msg19580) or publish it here.

I am currently working on this solution, which operates and Amazon plugins operate through 100% can not find all the posters, the vast majority of them. By the way, Amazon plugins should be corrected.

Rotten Tomatoes script not yet operational.

More on that when the greatest number of tests to make sure that everything is working properly. It will take some time to wait for the test results.

Is a very bad news .. even we are few friends in the forum but ... "Prepare the worst and expect the best" say the Americans...

So I have opened a page in my blog about Personal Video Database: http://vvveasy.altervista.org/personal-video-database/ (http://vvveasy.altervista.org/personal-video-database/)
and in the nearest future I will publish the MOD version that I use with page download by external program (curl).

You can always warn me of failures in my scripts in the Contact Web: http://contactbyweb.com/vvv-easy (http://contactbyweb.com/vvv-easy)

On the other hand, "Internet Archive" keeps a copy of this forum, so we do not lose everything we have worked on:https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://videodb.info/ (https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://videodb.info/)

If the page is extinguished  :'( , see you on the other side ;D

Apparently, December 9 left consequences on the forum. Users can no longer see the Reply button on the toolbar, and it is therefore not possible to post new comments. This may maybe only happen to certain users. Therefore, if there are any problems, you can send me in this email address.
