I like rick.ca's idea also.  I have been having a lot of trouble getting posters from amazon, and their quality is generaly getting worse.  I have only just started using tmdb and it seems quite good, except it currently takes too long when it decides I need 21 posters for a single movie.

does anyone know if there any plans for pvd to get fanart in the pipeline?

following not pvdrelated...
Thanks rick.  Hoping that MC will do something a bit more substantial with Movie and series backdrops soon so was getting ready to get some fanart.  The automatic downloading works ok but I hope they implement in a manner similar to artist images, i.e. a directory and place for the images.  Why they didn't just do the same thing for all movies and tvseries is beyond me (similar issues on many fronts hence the please slow down and finish what you started thread).

I dipped my toe into xbmc again and one of the views had some fan art and it looked great.

Please keep posting about how you go with sickbeard.  It would be good to avoid the tedium or renaming that it is nice to know others also go through.  I did download it but haven't done too much with it yet.

Was curious if anyone collects fanart from themoviedb.org or thetvdb.org with pvd?  Is this possible with pvd automagically?

I am not too fussy about what image I get for most of the movies so something quite automatic would be best.  Obviously, if something exists that gives me choices for some series or movies I care about would be good, but a silent mode would be best for most.

I am not in a rush at the moment as I use Jriver MediaCenter and it doesn't let me use them easily at the moment so curious if it is something in the pipeline for pvd.

Do I need to step outside pvd temporarily for this task (thinking that with the imdb address I have a good starting point).  Should I instead try to modify the existing scripts (not sure if I am up to the task)?

Thanks

I think I had in mind...

An option in preferences so that all Series genre information (may apply to other information also) is included in the episode genre.  Maybe a tick box where you can choose to enforce the episode genre to be the same as the series. And another option where every genre assigned to the series is replicated in the episode, but they don't have to be identical, thus for highly variable series such as Nova, you can have variability for each episode.

Thanks

Thanks Nostra,

I was hoping there may have been a general setting somewhere as I have a quite a few series to update.  Not the end of the world though. Something to consider in the new version??

Thanks again.

Is there a way to easily (automatically) get the Genre of each TV Series applied to each episode?
(At the moment, importing into Jriver MC means I get no genre information for TV shows as each episode in PVD currently has no genre information)

Thanks

Happy to stand corrected as I haven't dug too deep yet, but I think the .tag file is more than just a simple XML file as images can be embedded into it and it appears to be a binary type file when I opened one.  The example in the post was to an .nfo file that someone was considering converting via the perl scripts available (this source may have the code Nostra needs to create the file within PVD??).

If creating a .tag export function is not worth the effort, there may be a work around by creating a MyMovies xml file that the Netgear unit can read.  To this end, has anyone written a mymovies xml template yet to save me the effort? edit: mymovies.xml could be an intermediate step but would apparently introduce a need for manual conversion and thus not preferred.

Thanks

« on: February 15, 2011, 03:27:50 am »

My brother just bought a Netgear NeoTV 550.  This is a DLNA renderer that reads your NAS drive etc for movies.  It primarily gets its metadata from a .tag file near the movie file.  The meta data needs to be created externally as the provided tool is a bit lame and I have suggested PVD.

I was wondering if anyone has looked into if PVD can do it and/or what it would take for PVD to have this export option.  From what I gather the .tag format is supposed to be a standard iso format (id3v2.4.0) and can contain an image in the tag.  see http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1270549&page=43 for some discussion.

Inclusion of this format may be a good way of expanding PVD's user base as there are probably a quite few users out there and there don't seem to be many choices for them that create .tag files (mymovies and mcm??)

Thanks

Talk / Is there a PVD but for books?
« on: November 09, 2010, 11:03:14 am »

Really not the right forum etc, but hoping that those that love the virtues of PVD can point me towards the equivalent for ebooks.  Something that can scrape names for author and name, something that can access metadata if it exists, handle a lot of different formats, scrape photos and other background and reviews from amazon or similar.

If there are no suggestions, does anyone think I could shoehorn books into PVD or have thought about something similar (I would probably then use pvdimport to get it into jriver as I do for movies).

Nostra, ever thought of a book version?

Thanks

Buah you were right on the money.  There were a lot of instances of ffmeg running (guess leftovers from a crash?).  killed all of these processes and it is going again.  thanks very much.

using Movies ->Automatically create screenshots with directshow as preference setting: no images are returned.
using Movies ->Automatically create screenshots with ffdsho as preference setting: program does nothing with information bar at the bottom reading "Screeenshot maker .... Creating screenshots for xyz... Cancel (on the far right).  Clicking cancel causes no response, program appears largely dead.

Manual screenshot maker does work for both preference settings.

Thanks

PS Can you change teh thread title to "Stupid computer won't let me install a very useful program for no apparent reason but has changed its mind" :)

Whatever it was it has fixed itself up and I have v18 running.

Anyone else having trouble with the Automatically Create Screenshot maker?  Mine now starts when I select it from the menu but it never finishes.  I did try the manual screenshot maker, and it seems to be functioning.  The automatically create screenshot was working with v17. (I have not added any new series to see if the automated option upon adding a new series works yet)

thanks

Hi,
I tried running the v18 installer but it throws message that it has detected a version of pvd currently running.  but there is nothing running, nothing shows in task manager.  also tried stopping firebird service with no luck.

any suggestions?

thanks

[edit: w7 32bit, currently v17, also using pvdimport with mc and thus have firebird server (whichever is latest version??)]

Hi,

I started to use this to miss shows where I didn't have the automatic screenshot activated.  Very helpful.

Couple of qns...

1. The screenshot maker makes 6 images and one additional gets used.  Is there an easy way to select one of the 6 images and use it on the main page.  When I right click on the images, none seems to do it easily?

2. In the filters, I can get a list of all that are missing screenshots.  However, these are then grouped by TV show and I have to click on the little + symbol to expand, select all, and then automatic screenshot and then all i have is one season of one show.  is there a way for me to get a simple list of all entries, with files, that I can do a single get automatic screenshot.

Thanks

Yes, I was working on same theory for a while, thinking it was the combination of mmm.m4a and mmm.mkv causing the problem.  but at one point i deleted mmm.m4a and it still crashed.

I have a few other problem files, as it is still crashing on other directories, so maybe a pattern will arise.

Your original assumption is correct.  The crash happens during the first phase when it is scanning the folders.  I can see the directories being scanned and the last directories I see start with the letter T and then it crashes (The Hurt Locker I presume is the last).  I don't get to the dialog box.

I can't see anything strange with the permissions or setting of the mkv file causing the problem.

I guess PVD is only doing a scan of the name on the first pass, but it then must also be doing some comparison with what it has in the database to know how to display it in the subsequent dialog box, and I am guessing this is where the problem comes from.  For it was when I manually edited the existing path to point to the mkv file and not the (now) non-existent m4v file that the problem went away.  I suppose the comparison is a perfect match and not just similar and for some reason it works.

I am now at work, so can't try this myself, but I am wondering if I go to any file currently in the database and rename it from MMM.avi to MMM.mkv (or any other permutation of extensions) and then do the scan, will it recreate the error?

Craig

PS: I did think I had at one point renamed The Hurt Locker (2008).mkv to delme.mkv and it still got upset.  That would indeed be odd.  Will check again later.

Hi Rick,

doesn't matter what I name (extension or base) that mkv file or where I put it, when filescanner gets to it, it is game over.

if i put that file in graphedt, it shows a decoding chain, and the file plays fine in MC.  interstingly when i put it in gspot it doesn't display any information.

ok, now i am on to something.  i had only recently added The Hurt Locker (2008).m4v to the library, but I had to remux it as I wanted AC3 to be the default audio track, not the aac that was playing up.  so I went into the entry for the hurt locker and manually edited the Path field to reference the mkv file (ie. no longer .m4v) and now it works.  Very odd?????

but i have other files causing problems in other directories.  Guess I have a bit of trial and error ahead of me to find the other culprits.
