Development / Re: customfieldlabel vs. caption in skin

Thanks, that works! Wish I could understand why, but for now I'll just roll with it.  :)

Development / customfieldlabel vs. caption in skin
« on: July 01, 2011, 02:38:36 am »
OK I am trying to add custom fields to the pvd_imdb_theme movie skin. If I do the following, I get "watcher Watcher:" as my field label
Code: [Select]
                     <column width="140" halign="left">
                        <customfieldlabel field="watcher"/>
                        <label>
                          <caption>Watcher:</caption>
                        </label>
                      </column>

If I leave out the customfieldlabel element, I get no label at all:

Code: [Select]
                     <column width="140" halign="left">

                        <label>
                          <caption>Watcher:</caption>
                        </label>
                      </column>

I'm using the 1.0.1.0 beta but I'm probably just doing something stupid. So what am I doing wrong?

Perfect, I was going to ask you if there was anyway to get rid of the last comma without having to use Javascript, but then I decided to use &middot; instead of a comma, so it doesn't matter. Thanks again, Nostra.

In the main template, I have
{%value=actors  maxvalues="3" template="ddlist\actor.ptm"}

In the subtemplate, I have
{%param=name}

This results in me seeing output to the effect of:
Quote
<strong>(IMDB Rating:6.3) Actors: {%param=name}{%param=name}{%param=name}  Director: Robby Grewal</strong>

If I change the subtemplate to {%value}, it displays the actors names instead of the {%param=name} code but I am not sure how to get commas in there because the built-in templates seem to have no problems displaying commas in between the actors and I can't figure out how they do it.

One other thing, I was going to try to figure out this on my own using the existing templates as examples, but I am quite stumped.

I got it to work just as you said above using a subtemplate if the subtemplate contains only {%value} but this smashes the list of actor names up together without spaces. And if I do so much as put a comma to the right, I end up seeing the actual code {%value} in the output (along with the comma). I tried putting in some things in the main template as well, but without really understanding. So my new question is: is there an easy way to make it show commas in between the names?

Thanks again for all advice.

BTW I have noticed for a while that I have some of the ptm files from Plugins\Templates folder duplicated in Plugins folder itself. Is this normal or did I screw something up downloading extra templates from the forum into the wrong folder?

Thanks, nostra!

I'm starting to piddle around a little with templates. I am trying to get a template to display only the first 3 actors for the movie but it is displaying the whole list. I must have something wrong.
Code: [Select]
{%value=actors maxvalues="3"}
The whole line for that is:
Code: [Select]
<p><strong>(IMDB Rating:{%value=imdbrating}) Actors: {%value=actors maxvalues="3"}  Director: {%value=directors maxvalues="1"}</strong> {%value=description} </p>

Feature Suggestions / Re: Saving Advanced Search queries?
« on: August 26, 2010, 01:46:45 am »
I never saw the original Grid View, but in my mind it would make Multi Movie Editor obsolete and conquer some of its limitations. Personally I like the Advanced Search just as it is, except with a save / goto saved query gui.

Feature Suggestions / Saving Advanced Search queries?
« on: August 25, 2010, 06:32:41 pm »
Are there any plans to allow saving Advanced Search queries (ideally with a query name)? After creating a fairly complicated advanced search (which nostra went to some trouble to allow and which I am most grateful for), it seems a shame to have to recreate the same query again (even though it does save the most recent advanced search).

I added a movie that has never been in my database. Still I get this message box (attached). This happens with any movie. I am adding the movie via New Movie Master and my first thought was it was because I had poster checked. My second thought was to change back to IMDB from IMDB+Allmovie.  But I get this regardless. Could this be related to those invisible movies I keep hearing about and don't really understand?

Feature Suggestions / Re: Enable IMDb plugin to do Advanced Title Search
« on: August 24, 2010, 02:54:40 pm »

If I'm understanding you right, you can already do this.  Paste that URL into PVD's URL field, type/paste in whatever you want for Title, and PVD will import data for the correct movie.  It won't work if Title is left blank, though it would be nice if it could be.

Thanks, Hyomil, I wasn't aware of that.

If nostra takes this up, maybe there should be an additional field, "Exact URL", for those cases where the search misses the expected result altogether. For example, if I do a search for Swiss Family Robinson, it skips over the 1960 Disney version, even though it is the first result when searching IMDB from the browser. It would be helpful if I could just paste in http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054357/

Support / [SOLVED] Help Index Thread Down?
« on: August 21, 2010, 02:04:59 am »
For some reason, and this is all of a sudden because I was getting to the links before, if I click on any link in the Help Index thread, I get "The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limits to you." On the page with that message, it still shows me as logged in with my username.

Sorry, I should learn to read better.  :)

Delete plugins and scripts you don't want to have. Run PVD, run update. Right click on each plugin update you don't want to receive notifications of.

If you later want to reenable some, delete it from Tools -> Preferences -> Internet connection -> Ignore list.

This helps, if I can get it working. Did that just now, and the updates it found were 100% stuff I had just deleted, so I unchecked all and hit OK, and my Ignore List was still blank. So I thought, maybe I have to leave one checked so that it does an actual update, so I checked PVD to Tray which it updated, it restarted PVD and my ignore list is still blank.

FWIW I am running version 0.9.9.21 on Windows 7 x64 and installed to the default location of C:\Program Files (x86)\Personal Video Database and I run PVD as administrator.

Hi, I'm new here but have a possible feature request, hopefully a small but useful one.

I just finished deleting all the plugins that used sites not in my own language, along with pvdtotray.dll. It was easy to do but I really had to pay attention, closing and opening PVD several times to see what dll did what, and not something I would recommend to my less geeky friends. This no doubt will become more and more error prone as the word of PVD spreads to all corners of the world, requiring plugins in languages from Azerbaijani to Zulu, when presumably there would be 300 items on my import menu. So I would suggest an interface for disabling a plugin OR at least make it so that "Check for updates" doesn't grab all the plugins that I declined from the initial install.

EDIT: I just found Tools -> Preferences -> Internet connection -> Ignore list. I'm not sure why it's a blank list for me, but apparently there already is a way to be selective on the check updates feature. So my request is only a way to disable a plugin regardless of whether it is being updated.

I have this problem as well and was able to reproduce svenne's troubleshooting. Is the fix on the to-do list for Version 1?

Support / Re: Can't get CSV import to work
« on: August 10, 2010, 07:50:54 pm »
It seems like the "Ignore header" option is broken and as you have only one line in your file it is treated as header. Just move the data one line below. Note also that you need a delimiter at the end of each value (the last one as well) for the data to be fully imported.

Thanks, nostra, this did the trick, but first I got a crash and I sent you the bug report. Then I remembered that in the process of trying to get this to work, I had tried saving this to a Unicode file (little endian I think). When I saved it back to ANSI, it imported fine. Thanks to everyone for your persistence!

Ah, I had tried it with the delimiter but not the text qualifier. So just now I tried it again, with delimiter , and text qualifier " and it still doesn't import.

Would it be better to just take out the double quotes from the file and change the configuration accordingly? I thought quotes were pretty standard for CSV, but maybe I just think that because that's the way Excel exports to CSV.

Well I tried it that way, too (removed the quotes from both the file and the text qualifier in configuration) and it still didn't import.
