Support / Re: External HDD unrecognized

Through fear of the wrath of others may I tell you what I did when this happened to me?

Create the PVDB but leave it blank (erase all those which have failed to work), also delete the shortcut on desktop (as it take you to the wrong destination.

Use your External hard drive to open your Movies.BAK or whatever you have stored it as.

It should then open in your PVDB

Back up to Computer C Drive>Programs>Program Files(x86)>PVDB folder

Next time you open it from programs it should be there. Back up to external drive later as well.

Hope this works :)

Sorry Nostra, looking again I can see why my e-mail was misconstrued.

The external hard drive is third in line for the back ups,

I back up most nights all my film data to an SD card inserted in the computer, then the next back up is to a 16GB USB drive, and thirdly once every month or so I back up to a large external hard drive.

The PVDB back up on the SD card and USB stick are up to date, if anything happens it is a simple transfer, but this time PVDB did not like either of these files and even when C&P'ing them onto the C Drive would not work, I haven't the faintest idea why?, (I have recalled that I have had problems restoring from USB keys and SD cards many years ago).

I did manage to use the large external hard drive, sadly the data was about four weeks old, so I spent the whole of the day re-installing all the lost data back onto the computer and now I am almost up to date.

Done it............but I have had to use an external hard drive which was out of date, so I am re-instating all the missing DVDs, not to bad about 55 to catch up on but better than re-installing over 3,000.

Just frightened that one day I will lose all this data.

Thanks

Hi Nostra, I used the backup facility on the main page of PVDB, to a SD card inserted in the port of my laptop, and also in "my Documents" along with the normal backup to the folder in programs buddy.

(yes I am paranoiac over losing this data as I have over 3,000 films listed, not including those which I have sold but remain hidden from view and not deleted from the system).  :)

If I open it straight from back up location it comes up "Could not create back up file. Movies. pvd already exists

If I use the PVDB primary page (blank and unused) The restore is blanked out?

If I use open folder, it comes up with a bug report "an error has occurred" close application etc?

If I use the primary page and if rarely the restore button appears, when I use the find file facility there are no back up files, although I know they are in that particular file?

I have even placed the two files movies (with clapperboard logo) and movies.pvd (type OLD) in the programs (x64) folder, but still it cannot find them or start up.

I fully appreciate this is annoying you, but not as much as the hassle I have had and not having my favorite program up and running :)

Cheers

Can anyone help please, my laptop recieved the black screen of death, and had to be replaced.

Thankfully I did back all PVDB on both USB and in my documents, alas when I try and restore my PVDB on my new laptop it either comes up as files already in use, or when doing it via the empty PVDB home-page it cannot find any back up files in the PVDB folder?

Thanks in anticipation

This little function makes the whole PVD a pleasurable experience Rick and also gives it a more personal touch.

Hope others see this and are able to adjust their databases to suit :)

All the best

All boxes ticked in Preferences > Movies > Visible items?

No modifications whatsoever Rick (using PVD Classic)

The films I have seen have the three ratings bars still, but the ones I haven't or loaded since then, the rating bars have disappeared?

At this moment when entering a new film all I get is the one rating bar for IMDB

Cheers

Cheers Riick, yes the box is ticked, but I need multiple bars, three, one for IMDB, one for Film affinity and one for my personal rating?

I had these before I had to re-install my PVDB buddy.

Any ideas please?

Before I had 3 ratings bars, one for IMDB, a spare for (usually Film Infinity, it used to be Allmovie but they somehow disappeared?) and my own personal rating, but the latter two have disappeared and I cannot find them in "tools", or anywhere else, can anyone help me please :)  Thanks

Yep agree it would be a useful tool, especially when there are so many versions of the same DVD (re-issues and different regions etc)

Also useful when there are so many titles with the same name, and TV DVDs which are hard to find when searching on the IMDB.

Sorry, just thought I would ad my five penny-worth :)

Firstly this is the top program for me and congratulations on doing an excellent job.
To me the only way my PVD database could be improved and these suggestions may be incorporated (by I cannot find them?) are;

1. A way to view your personal favourites, eg, all your 10 stars downwards, perhaps twenty at a time and the ability to C&P them say into word?

2. Much the same thing but this time shopping patterns as in how many dvds did I purchase this year/last month, how many did I watch etc.

Thanks again, and apologies if these requests are not physically possible ...............Chris

Ok, I have used  them now Nostra, overcame the language problem, and found the pictures of the actors handy, so then I found out about the poster section using the last film which I saw which I fell in love with called "Welcome To Dongmakgol", the trouble is that the files are so small, (12kb) which renders them useless as when required they come out the size of a UK postage stamp?

I did manage to get some pretty decent ones from the main site, sadly this is no good for older films. The hunt is still on :)

Where do you get your pictures and posters from Nostra, as most sites I find do not allow you to copy the poster/pictures?

1096 movies and 303 people in my 391 Mb database. All movies with posters (often multiple) and 584 movies with 3-6 screenshots, all people with a photo.

I have only started to use the poster and screenshot facility recently, wish I had started it at the beginning :(

1774 films so far, with another 5 waiting to be entered, and at least another 8 in the postal system :)

2362 people in database.

326776 KB whatever that means?

Did I ever tell you I love watching films.  ::)
