Scripts and Templates / The Thin White Line (skin question)

Hi everybody.

I have been skinning again and I have created a mysterious white line around one section (an <imagelist>). I have no idea why it is there or where it came from. Notepad++ failed to indent it properly with pretty print, see code below. Does anyone have any idea how to make it disappear?

Hi everybody.

Since I had the mad idea to create my own skin some general and some specific questions concerning skins popped up:

1. Is it possible to crash PVD with a buggy or erroneous skin, corrupt the installation or even chip the database? I think I managed several times to do so… I switched to my skin and had to refresh manually just to receive a crash report, but after hitting “continue app” I could use my skin. However, every time I opened “settings” PVD crashed again … until it stopped working at all (toolbar got emptied, movie list turned black) and I had to re-install. It always complained about

Once it even ate all my posters and I had to fall back to a backup to get them out again.
Oh, it all happened on a Win7 machine, x32 and x64, almost forgot.

2. Are there known issues with custom fields spread all over the skin?

3. How can I prevent an unfilled field from collapsing? If the field “origtitle” is not populated (because it is the same as the title) it ‘collapses’ and the column from the right takes its place… Or how can I switch “origtitle” to ‘permanent display mode’?

4. Does it get harder to display the skin if there are lots of blank lines and comments in it?

Scripts and Templates / no customsection in skins

Hi everybody

I'm about to finish my first skin from scratch (thanks to the skin engine manual and the default skin). The only damn thing that refuses to pop up is that *** customsection.

As far as I got it everything is kinda nested within sections, and customsection is a section , but if I nail it to the end of my skin it won't show up. Actually I just added a copy of the classic skin's customsection... the basic layout is like this:

Feature Suggestions / Speeddial Icons for "My Favourite Group By..."

This is a more serious feature suggestion I'd really be happy with:

An icon or quicklist with the possibility to add your most used "group by" (or sort by, filter) items.

It could be just a set of round about four buttons that perform your favourite grouping or a quicklist with those guys in the toolbar.

Well, programming is rocket science to me and I have no idea if it is easy to implement...

Another nice to have feature would be a popup calender for date fields with a today option... This is an extremly low priority feature suggestion...

Feature Suggestions / Backup + Timestamp + ZIP

Hi,

would it be possible to implement the possibility to add a timestamp to filenames when backing up? And in addition have the backup stored in (7)ZIP formate?

This is a very low priority feature suggestion since another programme could easily do this job - but this whistle would make the lazy hearted feel quite tickled...

Feature Suggestions / Filter (or anything else) for duplicate movies

Hi again,

since I have some movies in different versions (e.g. theatrical, directors cut, BD, ...) I thought about a nice way to display multiple versions of one and the same movie like filtering for example. Actually - and because I have just forgotten to do this before importing all my movies - I want to add something like "DC" or "Theatrical Version" to the title without scrolling down the alpabetical list and identfy every duplicate that way.

Another very cool way would be to have a series like entry for the movie and sub-entries for the versions (although I think filtering or something like that could be easier to implement).

Furthermore, movie series could be arranged that way...

Support / Crash with custom rating field

Hi, it is me again.

After adding a custom field (rating) for quality pvd crashes after my humble vote for quality... This happenes all the time and all changes of value were made in non-edit mode. There are no crashes in edit mode, so supposedly the custom field "vote" doesn't like votes in non-edit mode.

I'm running 0.9.9.24 on Win 7

 ::) One other suggestion: Can you add a little wait time until restarting after updates? My database is still locked/reserved every time, so pvd restarts, cannot load db, I've to close it again and start it manually again and load my db...

Feature Suggestions / Toolbar ot right or left?

Hi there everybody,

would there be an opportunity to get the toolbars to the right or left side of the screen? Since widescreens are getting more and more common sense this would be a perfect oportunity to make their users happy... would also be a great thing for all netbook owners.

And one last question: is it possible to tweak a skin that way that eg languages appear as flags, movie types as corresponding symbol, etc. Alternatively, a possibility to colour certain fields according to their contents would to the job as well. Or just have pictures in some dropdown lists.

eg if field "language" contains "English" show UK or USA flag, OR: colour it red...

Oh, and really finally, will there be more fields (custom fields) added to Multi Edit? Or maybe could "Multi Edit" become customizable?

Support / V x.19 Amnesia - Default Plugin Import (and skin sometimes)

Hi again,

since V x.19 PVD seems to have lost its "Default Import Plugin" memory... It used to be a batch with V x.18, I've just changed it to another batch (this batch works fine, too) after the update and after every restart there's the old batch again... strange... not really an issue for me...

Sometimes I even lose my skin to the first in the list.

The rest just works fine...

By the way, did I ever thank you for this great programme?  ???

Support / Sort by "Location" / no import for "Translation"

My question #1,000 and 1,001... sorry...

After transferring my movies to PVD I stumbled upon two other things, the first is something very important, the second not:
  • How can I convince the program to sort (very important) / group by "Location"?
  • Importing s.th. to the "Translation" field leads to a crash. I tried from CSV and Excel...

Hi, it is me again...

I just imported my entire collectioin via CSV and PVD seems to ignore that I really wanted to keep my suggestion for "Date Added" and not want to know when I added all my stuff to PVD...

So: Is there any way to keep my "Date Added"?

Are there any known issues concerning  lost people when adding a new film (with this person)?

My problem was that I added a movie with an actor already among my people view - but this new film didn't show up in the movie list on its people page. So I updated / re-imported data from the internet for this guy and - voila - pvd deleted this actor from the old films and only displayed this actor with the newly added flick. And the movie list for this actor refuses to display the old films... Then I re-imported data for the old films and pvd keeps on refusing to add this actor again. I'm kinda puzzled, I already ran the DB clean-up routine with no effect. Manually adding this actor again works fine, but this could get an annoying bug if this happens again...  ???

Support / not really important questions concearning skins

Hi everybody,

While toying around mostly with movie skins I stumbled over a few things:

  • labelfont, fieldfont and linkdefs only change most of the font appearances, well, how to change the rest? E.g. tagline and description remain the way they were, some hyperlinks do the same... Am I right to assume that those three before mentioned guys are not the (only) global font setting strings?
  • How to I add custom fields? I found something like <customfieldlabel field="my field"/> but nothing about this fella:<? my field/>
  • Can I change the colour of those little
  • buttons that expand lists?
  • Can I add dots to the "actors (vast space) role" vast space?
  • Can I recolour the left view?
  • Is there a list of all available fields and their names?
  • Is there a script that could do stuff like "add 'something' to field A"? Or: can I create templates for new movies? E.g. if I add a TV recording the template already contains "TV" @ quality and "DVD5" @ mediatype etc?

So far, thanks for replies and apologies for all those questions...

Support / CTRL Shift for multiple selection

Am I right to assume that CTRL+Shift doesn't allow me row select (click first item - then ctrl + shift + click last item = everything in between is selected)? Did I switch it of or is there an alternative? I didn't block that keys with another hotkey action...

Support / Rename / Rearrange Fields?

Hi everybody

for a few days I've been playing around with this great programme, thanks a lot!

But there are a few things I still didn't get till now - at present I'm wondering
- if I could rename a field (there's no language file, isn't it? A skin wouldn't allow me that... right?)
- if I could influence the arrangement of custom fields
- where the custom fields are stored (I guess in my database...)
