Feature Suggestions / Save copy of video to local computer from remote location

This is an awesome piece of software. I was tasked with writing database management software to catalog company videos and stumbled across this. It is way better than anything that I could have done and saved me a lot of time. I do have one suggestion that would really make it perfect for my application:

I keep my video files on a remote network location and run image processing algorithm testing on my computer. The files need to on my local computer before I can run the algorithm so that it can be done real-time. I currently use the open containing folder function and copy the file to my computer. It would be very nice to automate this step and have it grab a copy from the remote server and save it to a predefined folder on my computer. The dream feature would be to search for videos of interest (say it returns 10 videos) and then run a "Copy all open records" type macro that would copy each video to my local computer one by one. That way, I could start it and go home, come in the next to find all the files copied over.

I would think this would be nice too for a user that wants to copy a video from his network server to his laptop so he could watch the movie on an airplane or whatever.

If this seems to be a unique feature that you wouldn't consider doing without a donation, let me know and maybe we could figure it out.

Thanks for the quick response on this. I think you are right, I will need to keep a PC running 24/7 with the database file and firebird server. I can still keep the video files saved on the corporate server using the remote file path found in the wiki. This is good since I will have multiple TB of video.

One thing that would be good to note in the wiki for "Connect to Server" is that port 3050 needs to be opened in the firewall before this will work.

First, I want to say that I have been very impressed with this software, especially the ability to customize the fields and search characteristics.

I really need to keep a remote copy of the database file on a network drive that can be accessed by multiple clients on the network. This is at work and my IT group holds the keys tightly to the servers. I don't think I will be able to have FireBird or anything other hosting software running on the server. The only solution that I can think of would be to keep a copy of the database on the network location and then have each user copy it to their local computer before running. I would much rather have a database that can be updated automatically when one user makes a change.

Why is it that I can store the database file on a removable drive, but not a network location?
