Support / Re: Forum Attacks
« on: January 06, 2012, 09:01:57 pm »
Hello, all, I wanted to bring a point up from a user's perspective here so that it's being considered. In most cases, a lot of forums require someone to register to actually be able to access the forum's content (IE some of the links, downloads, etc. are only available to registered users), which might account for the high number of lurkers. For my case, I don't post often because I try and limit my postings to relevant topics. For instance, bugs I find in the betas and such, although I'm still trying to figure out how to post more informative things as the data I provide seems... insignificant and unhelpful, hence why I haven't posted much in awhile.

With regards to how to stop the spam postings... Would it be possible to implement a filter of some sort? This would flag certain domains, words found in a post, etc? IE, anything with words in the topic that contain sex-related stuff, viagra/cialis/etc (I can provide you with a variant list if you want since I've been getting a lot of spam Emails with this stuff in them lately :/ ). What I'm suggesting is something that a Yahoo group that I run uses where anything that seems suspicious gets flagged and set aside until a moderator can look at the message to make sure its not spam.

I hope these are helpful.

Scripts and Templates / Re: Are there anime related skins...

I'm honestly still trying to figure out how to get things to display properly with XML. Its... more complicated than a lot of the others I've worked with, in regards to skins and such. For some reason I can't get things to display properly or end up with half the page missing or something. Its most frustrating.

Support / Re: Automatic Screenshots Not Working

I've found this to be an irregular problem that is annoyingly consistent only in that it will happen periodically. You just never know when it will happen. Best thing I've found to do is try killing the ffmpeg process in task manager while pvd is still running. After you do that, it shouldn't kill it but ffmpeg should suddenly spike with its cpu usage and work after that. So far that's the only thing I've found which works to fix this problem.

When it comes to series/episode interactivity I also envision the main series entry having a list under one of the tabs which lists all the episodes for the eries and has a checkbox next to each showing which episodes have been watched and which haven't. This makes it easier to determine where I'm at in a series. As it is I'm already tring to figure out how I can use some kind of custom memobox to list all the episodes so I have a ready list. Having the eps show up under the main series name is nice but the column on the left only shows about 10at the most and most of the time I can't read the title without having to change the layout of the column and record display. Its hard to explain even though it seems simple eough in theory, so far no one has done it yet.

For number 4, I was referring to what is dispplayed in the left column. Right now the only thing that gets displayed is the title. However, what about being able to add other things which could be displayed such as resolution, format, genre, etc...

For the interactivity between tree branches what about an xml tag that will list maybe the ep # and title for all the branches under that series? It would work kind of like the customfields tag. Its a start at least since the episodes are linked into the main entry, correct?

For number 3, well one thing that I was referring to would be case statements or someway of coding options into the skin. For instance let's say the poster/cover is below the size that was set in the skin. Well in that case by using a case statement or if/then statement you could have something in the skin which would modify the layout slightly so that the cover won't look blocky. Ill look up the sspecific options I was talking about once I get a chance to.

I forgot a big feature... what about some kind of skin editor? I know, I know I can use pvd for that... err no... sorry guys but that doesn't work to well for me... its the same with web page editing... I prefer to have a piece of software that will do wysiwyg and edit the text/code level so I can make those fine changes you can't get in the overall view. However, using an actual skin editor would make it easier to do and thered be more skins being submitted. As it is right now I'm struggling through trying to make an anime skin (this when I really don't have time for it between work and school...masters degrees are time consuming  :-\) and just not getting it. Talk about frustrating. Trying to use pvd to preview it is ending up taking too much time... so a skin editor would help a lot I think especially since there really isn't anything that can be done modification wise due to the structure of xml.

Support / interesting bug in ffmpeg...
« on: June 28, 2011, 01:14:05 am »
Apparently using the new ffmpeg to do screen captures doesn't work to well for regular mpeg files. It tends to put mostly grey screen shots with an occasional frame actually being grabbed. Its weird.

The manual screenshots thing works okay though. Its only in the automatic screenshot grabber.

Yes, I know, some of these I've mentioned before. I'm trying to layout things better so I can netter explain how certain feaatures incorporate into what I'm suggesting. In all honesty I think the way I'm explaining stuff comes off wrong so forgive me if I've repeated myself.

Another feature that would be handy would be the ability to have the stats of the database displayed somewhere in plain site instead of having to pull up the stats option from the menu. There's a program that's a good start for cataloging anime called anime list maker (iirc) and it displayed total items in database, total size of video files in database, total episodes, etc in a column on the right of the screen. Its a handy feature to have especially since you really don't realize how big your collection is until you see the totals... "its how many gigs big???"... perhaps this could be something that could be for skins in the future, information for something like a "home page" for the collection... or a summary page, take your choice with the terms...

Well that's all for now...

Feature Suggestions / some new feature suggestions....
« on: June 28, 2011, 12:40:31 am »
Okay, since I don't know how the xml is setup for this thing I'll assume anything can be written in as long as you have the tags for it. That being said there needs to be some other things I think. So here's a list of features i'd like to see implemented as they would reflect some of the overall better features I've seen in other softwares. I'm not sure if any of these have been suggested already or not.

1 - implement custom images fields that can be set for whatever size. Lots of uses for this. Customimage01, customimage02, etc. For instance. That way the custom images can be used for banners or season images or something.

2 - with a lot of software using a hierarchical look, the lack of interactivity within the various branches of the tree make it difficult to organize things sometimes. Therefore, any main branch should be able to read things from the sub branches under it. This would be good for series, ie all episodes you have/want at a glance, or for websites and things where you download videos that you are cataloging, ie certain scenes from vod adult sites or support videos related to series you like. The potential here is amazing merely from an organizational pov.

3 - there must be some way to add more customizability to the skins layout. I've looked at a few other pieces of software that use xml for the data display so I know there's other options. I just don't know what all goes into the programming of said layout as its been quite awhile since I worked with any programming language.

4 - customize what gets displayed in the tree listing. A lot of other software has this ability, although some don't and it can be quite helpful in determing what gets quick displayed at a glance.

Since I'm at work right now its hard adding to this list so I'll add to it more later.

Support / Moving Episodes From One Series to Another...
« on: June 12, 2011, 12:26:48 am »
Is there any way to move an episode from one series to another? I just spent quite awhile setting up quite a number of episodes including screenshots, data, and the like only to realize I had put them under the wrong series.

For the purpose of including other images in the skin that aren't record specific.

Support / question on memobox displays...
« on: June 09, 2011, 11:00:57 pm »
Okay so I am still working on the anime skin and it is very time consuming. I tried using the software that recommended but couldn't figure out how to add new sections (ie anything like row/column) but I'll figure things out and probably code it textually. At any rate I want to have 2 tabs under the cast tab. One tab will be japanese cast, which has to be the main as not all anime is dubbed in english. The second tab will be for the english cast and will have to be entirely custom fields. So, if I use a custom memo box and display the cast names like for the standard, will they display the same way? In other words, in the cast box, <actor name> ... <character name> shows up with the ... being replaced by a large space to balance left and right justification. Will the custom memo box show up the same way?

And on aside note, has anyone tried making skins using !CDATA?

Support / Re: Can't Get Episodes To Show Up Under Actors' Information
« on: June 08, 2011, 12:16:43 am »
I'm actually entering the data manually. Right now its a matter of trying to link the information together. So far this is proving a most daunting task.

So what you are saying is there's no way to link to the episodes themselves?

So I right-clicked on the area for that, clicked on "Actor" to add that section, then after that clicked on "Add Movie"... but its only allowing me to add movies to the list, not episodes.

« on: June 07, 2011, 07:33:49 pm »
Does anyone have a clue how to get the episodes of series and such to show up under the actors' and actresses' information? So far nothing I've done gets this to work. Even trying the hyperlink feature produces no results (in that the hyperlink won't go anywhere).

Support / Re: File Scanner & RegEx Question....
« on: June 03, 2011, 07:45:06 pm »
*nods* Yeah... it seems to be having a bit of a fit at times, for lack of a better word. I've tried it with some smaller episode anime series and it... worked? Well... With an OAV that was about 12 eps long it tried to add the files, but got confused because the file names had part of the titles in them. So I ended up with ep 7 being assigned to the record for ep 8, ep 12 assigned to record for ep 3... weird... Tried it on another series that was about the same length with  similar results...

Going to have to play with the settings to see what I can come up with.

Sigh, sadly, its not... the "organize files by episodes" option is greyed out.

Okay so you are adding all the files to a single record and then telling it to reorganize them will seperate them or are you using a .log file to show where all the files are?

Okay what do you mean by manually assign the files then organize them? I thought that's what I've been doing that's taking so long...

And thank you for the regex code. Ill try it and see if that helps.

- katleeh

Okay, I've been struggling with this whole regex thing for a few days and its really frustrating since I don't have a standard naming structure on my files and just want the program to scan the things in the drive then ask me where to put them or if I want them to be put under a new movie/series. However, it doesn't look like this can happen so what about just being able to drag the movie/series files to the name already in the database and having it add the files as either a movie or series and adding a series number automatically if there isn't one.

Otherwise, Nostra please add a feature that allows you to change the title the scanned files are going to be put under. File scanner scans the files, displays them and doesn't let me make any manual changes to the movie I want them to go under or the series. Thanks. If you are wondering what I'm talking about, look at the program Extreme Movie Manager and you'll see what I mean. The file scanner works exactly that way using a combination of intelligent scanning and also being able to attach things to existing series/movies or adding new series movies if you tell it to.
