Talk / Looking for a book cataloguer
« on: July 21, 2015, 07:29:56 pm »
Hi! ;D

As we all know PWD is perfect. But finding something even remotely as good for books is hopeless. Any tips out there?

I have Calibre for converting. But what I'm looking for is a fairly simple program for grouping my ebooks and get an overview of what I have. Calibre doesn't do it for me when it comes to that. It doesn't necessarily need to fetch info about the book, but I absolutely need categories and cover images (also on the overview page).

I find that with ebooks it's so hard to remember what books you have and which you have read. I think that is because you don't "see" them as with physical books. Cover images help, I think.

I had a nice program but alas it was discontinued. I haven't liked any of the big ones I've tried. Either they don't provide the simple features I want (like browse by category with images) or they are overly complex and complicated.

??? But I just did. Removable Drives = DVD, CD.

Yes, I can find ways to mark the deleted files, but I can't find a way that isn't already used by some other function. Currently I just delete the path and put in an image saying DELETED. But I can't filter on that.

It isn't only about marking and filtering them either. It would be nice to get the stats too. As I hinted at, a checkbox together with the others would be really nice. But maybe it's just me who has the need for this.

I don't follow. If I filter on "Movies on removable drives" I get all the movies I have on DVD together with those lacking a file path.

Hi!  :)

Maybe it's just me, but I sometimes get movies that turn out not to be worth the space, so I delete them. I'd still like to track them. IFAICS there is now way to do this since not owned is the same as "wished".

I'd very much like to see something like the below.
Code: [Select]
[x]Seen
[]Wished
[x]Deleted

What do you say? Just me being stupid?

It would be nice if the full size poster could be displayed directly from PVD, even when it's larger than the screen.

I guess that would mean scrollbars on the Picture View window or the option to open the image in an external viewer of choice (and saving the image to a temp folder in the process, I assume).

Personally I'd like something like this.

1. Double-click the image: opens in the View window as now
2. Single-click in the View window: full size image with scrollbars
3. Double-click in the View window: close
4. Right-click in View window: option to open in external viewer

Just some thoughts. :)

nostra, I don't remember if I held down CTRL. But I remember that updating the record from IMDB did nothing.

rick.ca, that option is not checked. It says "Warning: These changes can not be undone easily", so I never dared to try it since I don't fully understand all the features of the program yet. OK, I take it I should not try to tidy up the people records. If I have created invisible people how do I make them visible again though? It's it the same option as for invisible movies - Filter | Advanced filter | Show All/Not Visible?

Thank you.  :)

Hi!  :D

I deleted an actor from People View because I didn't want to read about him again and I have too many persons listed there already. Too late I realized he also disappeared from the actors list for the movies he was in and I didn't manage to get him back.

Is there a way to get rid of people in People View without deleting them from Movies View?

Sorry if this has been discussed already, I suspect it has, but I didn't manage to find anything with the search. :-[

Hi to all!  :D

Thank you for a wonderful program. :)

I'm a new user and spent the night adding movies. Then all of sudden today I got the error code 3 message. I found the solution myself while preparing to ask for help here. I thought I'd mention it in case some other newbie has done what I did.

I accidentally had opened two instances of PVD. The old one ran in the tray and I had forgotten about it. That was all.  I'm a happy camper again. :-*
