Support / Re: File Scanner Causes Crash
« on: February 15, 2010, 12:39:18 pm »

ok. so changed the file scanning directories.  i can get file scanner to actually start and will go through quite a few directories and then stops with error.  can't really see which directory it is upset with (text goes by too fast).  similar thing happens on any of my subdirectories.

through trial and error I found a few directories that if removed allowed filescanner to proceed.  Each of these perhaps by coincidence had two media files in the directory, eg. The Hurt Locker (2008).mkv and The Hurt Locker (2008).m4a.  The other culprit directory had movietoobadtobenamed (1983).mkv and movietoobadtobenamed (1983).wmv. For later, problem seemed to be in wmv file, as upon renaming the extension of the wmv file to .wmvold it worked.

can't get the hurt locker mkv file to pass through the filescanner though.  tried renaming to different extension avi and it didn't work, tried completely different name, i.e. delme.mkv.

is filescanner doing something more than it used to in v16, as these files had passed through previously.

any suggestions.

thanks

perhaps not as important if the above can be fixed...

I had nothing fancy in my database, so my best option at the moment is to export to a text file with file location and imdb address and let it re-import everything again.  may miss a few posters I guess, but not the end of the world.  Would rather not though as it takes a while for 800 or so movies.

So I tried to write a simple export CSV file,

with ...

%OPTIONS%
encoding="UTF8BOM"
replace=";<->,"
replace=""<->"
replace="#13#10<-> "
replace="#13<-> "
replace="#10<-> "
filter="CSV Files|*.csv"
%OPTIONS%
%HEAD%Title;Year;URL;Path
%HEAD%{%value=title};{%value=8};{%value=27}

all I get is ...
12 Angry Men;http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050083/;23.97

value 27 is supposed to be the path (http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php?topic=766.0).  all i get is some sort of number.  what am i doing wrong??

see second sentence above (replace word if with when, poor grammar style).  yes when i create a new database and ask for a file scan, it starts without error.  this is an affirmative for both a standalone database and if i connect to server with a new database and do the same thing.

is there a way to get my existing (perhaps corrupt??) data into a new database?

rick, i think you are right, it is something in the database

if i start a new database (not connected to server or standalone) file scanner is fine.

if i then restore from a previous backup into this same blank file (only works if not connected to server), then the file scanner stops working and asks if i want to quit.

suggestions?

If I add a new movie manually and ask it to search using TVDB, the data is largely incomplete, i.e. will miss seasons and not all episodes within a season.

if i only add the name with no look up at that point, and then select import from tvdb from the main menu it all works.

so not really a problem, just thought i would let you know (using v16 but i think i have some entries from 14 with same)

craig

[now not 100% sure as it may just be that I had the filter on.  thus when i typed in Wire, looking form The Wire, only the episodes with Wire in them showed up. beginner error.  is there an option to change this behaviour so that tv series will show all episodes]

then I thought, why not go back to v14. but i had forgotten the first rule, back up before upgrading.  now when I try and add a record in v14 it says "validation error for column @1, vlaue "@2"  The insert filed failed because a column definition includes validation constraints.  Error Code 27"

But the upside is filescanner works in v14, just can't add the fields.

if i start a new database filescanner works fine.

but I have Firebird 2.1.3 server running so that I can have simultaneous connections with pvdimport. it is on the database that i have used "connect to server" that won't run filescanner.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

Just upgraded to 0.9.9.16 (from 14 was it?) and file scanner causes an error message.

A window pops up with viddb.exe in the title... "An error occured in the application" and I have the choice to continue or restart. continue lets me return to pvd and it seems to function ok.  however, file scanning hasn't.

using w7 32 bit.  also have pvdimport installed so using the connect to server option if that makes a difference.  not sure if i did anything else abnormal.

any other information i can give you??  haven't tried to reinstall yet.

Thanks

Feature Suggestions / Rottentomatoes Scraper
« on: January 12, 2010, 01:50:06 am »

Hi,

Thought I would put in a vote for a rottentomatoes scraper?  Really only interested in the RT % rather than getting a lot of information from the site.

I would then hope to be able to get that from PVD to JRiver MC via PVDImport.

Thanks
Craig

PS: read somewhere that there is a better site for rating other than RT, but can't remember what it is was.  If you know of a better site, that would also be fine.

Minor feature requests from new user,

would be great if there was a rename tool directly in pvd.
also recently imported list would be handy to make sure imports are as expected.
will be really happy the day i can get tvdb images for each episode/season, but i gather that is not a pvd problem.

great program.

For what it is worth to others (not much)...

I have finally made the change to pvd from mymovies.  main bsis was better/easier support for tv shows.  also liked the idea of the explicit mapping that you can do with pvdimport if you are also using jriver MC.

the excel import in pvd is great.  as rick suggeted, simply export xml file of all movies from mymovies and open in excel.  make a file of filename, title, year and imdb address and import into pvd.  database is largely populated.

Main difficulty with the switch was that all of my directories were poorly named and upon file rescan in pvd, it would constantly want to import it as a new movie, especially so if you move the file to a new drive/directory.  i appears (to me in ignorance) that the only way to reasonably use pvd is to have well named directories.  as i had gone through the movie selection process with mymovies, i had xml files in each directory. so i wrote a little excel script to grab the movie name and year from the mymovies.xml file and rename the directory and file (assuming one media file per directory).

 it is attached, not pretty code but worked for me.  note, comment the rename and move lines to see a list of what will be renamed etc.

Code: [Select]
Sub renamefilesanddirectories()

sorry for last post,

my obvious stupidity, location being in the "hall closet",  path being the file path.

still, any tips, little scared to do excel import again, incase it screws today's work.

any suggestions

Hi Rick,
almost there (spent better part of day renaming tv shows).

movies worked fine, used the excel import that brought in movie title and "location".  In pvd the correct path shows up in "media location" and the imdb lookups worked a treat.

i then when to do a scan of folders and none of the movies in the database are recognized, i.e. it thinks it has found a lot of new movies.

i thought i would just use the xml export to import into excel and then write a script to rename based on filename and movie title.  but this doesn't report anything in the "path" field for the majority of movies.  the only ones that have something are those that i have subsequently added after the excel import.

guess path and location are different?  but as I said, it displays ok in "media location".

any suggestions?  can i do a bulk copy of location to path if path field is empty?

thanks

Sorry for the confusion.  I want the IMDB ID to ensure that it picks up the correct title from IMDB.  When i did the silent import with title and year, it still got quite a few wrong/or didn't choose anything due to ambiguity of title and year.

I have gone through the manual selection process in mymovies already and thus have all of the correct imdb id's.  So I think I want to do your later option, i.e. create a url for it.  i presume that PVD will use this first (i.e. in preference to title and year) during the query to imdb to get the remainder of the fields?

thanks again

thanks for all of your replies rick.  greatly appreciated.

is there a way for me to give PVD the imdb id directly.  i have all of these from the mymovies database and can assemble path, title year etc from MC playlist as you suggested in an excel file (unfortuantely MC doesn't import this field from mymovies).  the excel import plugin doesn't have this field as an option.  can i import it into another largely unused filed, say comments and then bulk copy from one field to another?

thanks
