It used to be required at some point, but if the new design is fine, I'll just change my IMDb settings to that so I don't get those URLs.

With IMDB 9.8.10, I only get the HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found error if I paste in the URL with the "/reference" on the end.  It would be good to be able to paste this in without having to delete that part:

ex.  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098668/reference

though it would be fine if PVD removed it.

This updated version does insert "/reference" at the end of the URL, but it still doesn't import the data.  Adding "/fullcredits" doesn't work either.  Nor does CTRL+Deleting the entry and trying it fresh.

Using PVD v0.9.9.21

This works in the old script as well

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101700/fullcredits

to get music and production credits

But I can't get the new IMDB scripts to work at all. Being pretty new to this, do I need to do more than just replacing the old batch/scipt with the new ones at the appropiate places in the folder Personal Video Database 0.9.9.21\?

AFAIK.  Just make sure you're using the new script instead of the plugin, which may still be the default, depending on your settings in Preferences.  The plugin appears on the Import menu as "IMDB," whereas the script is "Imdb."  Someone suggested in another thread running the plugin and then the script, but that didn't help.

Thanks, but I tested Imdb Movie(1) v 0.1.0.4 on the URLs I listed and Country and Original Language still aren't imported.  Are they working for you?

Yes, the changes at IMDb must have been more extensive than just the URL.  Examples:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100195/reference
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098668/reference

Country and Original Language aren't downloaded.  Writers and Directors are, however, so please include a link to one where they aren't to test.

IMDb appears to have added "/reference" to the end of URLs for the old display format.  If you add that manually in PVD's URL field, it works.

I have this error now too.  It happens when first adding the series "V" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1307824/ as well as several others.  I downloaded a clean copy of PVD inside a virtual machine, updated the plugins, and it happens there too.  Using Windows 7 64-bit.

Support / RSS feed not working for "Version 1 [Testing]" forum
« on: November 15, 2010, 11:54:55 am »
The "Version 1 [Testing]" forum was added, but I'm not picking up posts from it in Google Reader.  I'm using the main feed URL:
Code: [Select]
http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php?type=rss;action=.xml
I thought maybe it was deliberately left out of the main feed's posts since not everyone might wish to see them, but I can't subscribe to the individual feed for it either:
Code: [Select]
http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php?action=.xml;board=12;type=rss
I get the message "The feed being requested cannot be found."  Other individual forum feeds can be added normally.  The feed does exist, because I can view it in Internet Explorer, so it could be a problem with Google Reader, but I thought I'd check here first to see if it was misconfigured.  Anyone else noticing this in Google Reader or any other feed reader?

Support / Re: Some AKAs not importing from IMDb
« on: November 05, 2010, 07:00:10 am »
In this case, there is no AKA mentioned on the (redesigned) main page. My guess is that, finding nothing there, the plugin assumes there are no AKA's and therefore doesn't check the /releaseinfo#akas page. If this is so, considering the inconsistencies we've seen in both release dates and AKA's, it might be better to ignore the main page for this data and get it directly from this page.

Agree.

Quote
I see only three. Of the four listed, one is the Original title. It appears that's included in the list if the display title has been localized.

Right, I see the same on IMDb's page; I overlooked that importing the Original title into the AKAs would be redundant.

I'm having a problem, too, I think with the plugin, with adding credits in People View (using 0.3.0.2).  To use Jeeja Yanin http://imdb.com/name/nm2925876 as an example again, if I delete one of the two credits and then import with the plugin, it doesn't get added back.

1.  Happens with Merge Filmography both checked and unchecked.  (The Filmography box is a gray check.)
2.  If I delete both credits, then they're both added back due to the 'fill if empty' behavior, as you'd expect.
3.  The second credit does get added back if the Filmography box is a black check and Merge Filmography is unchecked, also as you'd expect.
4.  The surprising case is that if Filmography is a black check and Merge Filmography is checked, then the plugin behaves correctly--adding any missing movies from IMDb and leaving movies not on IMDb alone.  I tested this by adding a credit "Test" to the list and, upon importing, the missing movie was added back and "Test" was not overwritten.  From what I've read, it shouldn't be necessary to configure the plugin this way to get it working, as Merge Filmography can have undesirable behaviors.

It is actually like this: one of the titles and year should match. It causes problems if year differs or both titles do not match. Not setting "Merge filmography" prevents the program from adding 2 records for the same movie/person from different sources with different (wrong) year/title/original title, so it really helps if you do not check this option.

5. The Merge filmography option causes credits to be added to movies when the People records (and their filmographies) are updated. You don't want to do this if using the "actors from main page only" option to restrict the number of actor credits to 15 (recommended to prevent a huge number of minor actors from being added to the database).

People > Main         Show people added from movie credits.      Must be set if people are to be shown in the people list and information about them recorded.

What is the purpose of this option?  PVD comes with this unchecked and I don't see how it "must be set if people are to be shown in the people list and information about them recorded."  I've always had this unchecked and when I click on a person in Movies view, they're made visible in the People list (whose filter I have set to Visible).  If I want to remove their visibility, I use the Delete key (and omit adding CTRL to it).  And "information about them" is certainly recorded.  Comparing this with the related option,

Quote
Movies > Main         Show movies added from Filmography.
Results in all movies in filmographies appearing in the movie list. Intended for collections of people (and the movies they're associated with), rather than the more common collection of movies (with the people associated with them).

my guess was it meant that setting this option will, when you import the cast in Movies view, immediately set all those people to Visible in People view.  But what I found when I tested it on a copy of my database was that it set all 79000 of my People to Visible.

Alternative Names and Genres.

I could not find those in the new design...

With the new design, Alternative names are on the main page for me (see attached screenshot) and genres are on this page:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0311508/filmogenre

Also, are you able to import the 2 credits for Jeeja Yanin http://imdb.com/name/nm2925876?  I get nothing when I try to import them.

...why do you have "Merge Filmography" checked?...

Because I didn't read your post in this thread.   :)  I'll leave it unchecked.

You are right, Hyomil, thx for the info. I have uploaded a fix.

Thanks, that works for the credits, but now an import for the same person (Jeffrey Lau http://imdb.com/name/nm0311508), fails to get the Alternative Names and Genres.

Also, for Jeeja Yanin http://imdb.com/name/nm2925876, I tried importing (with "Merge Filmography" unchecked) and PVD removed the 2 movies I already had in my database (presumably because I had Filmography as a black rather than gray checkbox, which I've changed now as well) and didn't add them back upon importing a second time.

Looks like another one here: using the new 0.3.0.0 People plugin, I just updated Jeffrey Lau http://imdb.com/name/nm0311508, who I already had some movies of in my database, and PVD created new entries for them instead of merging like it used to.  None of these new entries have years, either.  (See attached screenshot.)

In addition to not merging the credits, PVD didn't import all of them to begin with.  I tested on a copy of the database where I cleared the Jeffrey Lau record and reimported and the first entry under each category is missing.

Writer:
1.  Chut sui fu yung (2010) is missing.
Director:
1.  Chut sui fu yung (2010) is missing.
Producer:
1.  Kung Fu Hustle (2004) is missing.
Actor:
1.  Yuet gwong bo hup (2010) is missing.

And for the ones that did import, the years were missing.

I haven't made any changes to the plugin's settings recently; "Merge Filmography" is checked and "Filmography" has a black (not gray) checkmark.

Here's a Firefox addon I've been using for some time now for saving posters: Image Toolbar.  It creates an image toolbar like that of Internet Explorer and PVD, where one of the buttons can be set to do instant saving (to a directory you can set in the options), bypassing the Save dialog box.  I suggest also setting it to use big icons and setting the Open Delay to 0 ms (although something like 500ms is needed if you use "Relative to cursor" mode), options I'd like to see in PVD's image toolbar.

It also has a "Relative to cursor" mode where the toolbar appears right under the cursor and follows it around, but it blocks left-clicking since you can't offset the cursor from the toolbar.  Someone modified the code here to fix that.  You can go through that process or just use the attached version where I did it myself.  (Just change .zip to .xpi and drag the file onto a Firefox window.)
