Support / Slow switching from People to Movies
« on: April 01, 2010, 10:04:52 am »
When I'm in People view and switch to Movies view, its started taking 47 seconds every time.  I see the viddb.exe process is using 100% of a CPU core.  What could be requiring so much processing?  Switching from Movies view to People view is immediate.  I tried disabling my antivirus and also clicking on an actor's name to do the switching rather than the button on the toolbar.

I'm using 0.9.9.19 on Windows 7 64-bit.

Feature Suggestions / Re: Resizing images
« on: February 18, 2010, 02:07:46 am »
I do not want to add too many functions not directly connected to movie cataloging, so stuff that can be accomplished by other apps is not very welcome. I will consider implementing such functionality thou, if many PVD users will vote for it.

Speaking of this, maybe a good idea for screenshots would be to add an "Open with..." or "Edit with..." button or context menu action (or an option to automatically open the image in your operating system's default program) so that when users have many images, they can just open the first and flip through all of them quickly in Full Screen mode in their image viewing program of choice rather than having to double-click on each thumbnail in PVD.

Talk / Re: Favourite Website / Tools ? (Movie / TV related)

I like the IMDb Movie Collection Manager - by Futuros http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/36797 Greasemonkey script.  It does auto-highlighting of IMDB pages (or any page w/ IMDB links) of movies you've either rated or added to MyMovies lists.  This is better than just adding movies to a list like next-flick.net.  Next to every IMDB movie will be printed your rating of it, the list you've moved it to, and a drop-down arrow to either remove it from that list or move it to another one.  So its like you can write notes next to each movie on the page.  I have an "Awaiting Viewing" list that I take movies out of once I've rated them, a "Not Interested" list for movies I've watched the trailers for and want to remember to avoid, and a "Blu-ray release upcoming" list to keep me from watching a DVD when I know there will be a blu-ray version.  Its easy to go through actor's and director's pages and see the status or research you've done on a film at a glance.  And when you do keyword/MoKA searches, you only need to examine the ones that don't have highlighting marks of some type on them.

Likeminds http://www.likeminds.com looks promising due to its ability to automatically transfer your ratings between different sites like IMDB, Netflix, Flixster, and Rotten Tomatoes, but its still prone to errors as too often it can't match up movies between the sites.

Support / Command line usage
« on: February 09, 2010, 08:03:51 am »
I'm trying to start using PVD from the command line but I can't get the parameters to do anything.  I'll use a shortcut Target like:

"C:\Portable Apps\PVD Portable\PVD_Portable.exe" -addmovie="test"

and PVD will open but it won't add a movie.  Same for the -selectmovie parameter.  I tried using a Windows command window and the Run dialog but the result is the same.  Also, if PVD is already open, executing this command will open a new instance instead of passing the parameters to the existing one.  What am I doing wrong?

PVD v0.9.9.16

Scripts and Templates / Re: screenshots and cover size

Change

Code: [Select]
<screenshots>
to something like

Code: [Select]
<screenshots cheight="480" cwidth="1019">
which creates thumbnails of a fixed size and requires the left pane to be resized so that the thumbnails will fit in the right pane or else they'll disappear (unless you're in Full Screen mode).  I use 1019 for width since my monitor resolution is at 1280x960.  Adjust to fit whatever you're using.  I've read every post I could find about this and tried many combinations, but it seems like this is the best that can be done until something like

Code: [Select]
<poster autosize="true"/>
that works for posters is implemented for screenshots.  Its a tradeoff.  With the 480 height I specified, DVD NTSC (not PAL, which is 576) resolution screenshots will be both displayed at full size and stacked neatly vertically with no vertical gaps between them.  VCD (240/288 height) resolution screenshots will be full size but separated by large gaps vertically.  HD resolution screenshots' thumbnails will not be as large as they could be.  Arbitrarily cropped photos found on the web will have one problem or the other.

As for the Front Cover and Disc Cover, I don't know.

Support / Scrolling
« on: January 18, 2010, 08:18:17 am »
1.  I set my mouse wheel to scroll "One screen at a time" under Control Panel>Mouse.  PVD is the first program I've encountered where this doesn't work.  It only scrolls a few lines a time.  Has anyone else encountered this?  I'm using v0.9.914 Portable and Windows 7 32-bit (English language).

2.  When I use the scroll bar of the right pane, the window content smears--specifically, when I drag the slider down, the bottom part of the window content is drawn repeatedly while I'm dragging and new content is only drawn once I stop dragging the slider.
