ah..ok i manage to connect to the database now. Had to use FlameRobin (firebird gui) to do some setting up of firebird server. Now I can connect to the pvd database. However, using firebird database, the "save images in database file" is checked and gray out. That means the images must be saved in the DB when using firebird server?

ok it's me again and this time I am trying to setup a firebird server in my linux server. I am having problems getting PVD to work with this external server.

I am running firebird server 2.5.2 on ubuntu 12.04.

I have started the server and try to telnet into the server and it responded well on port 3050 (default port for firebird).

However, when I try to connect to this db from my windows using pvd_portable, it doesn't work. I get crash to desktop. PVD_portable will close without any warning. Any idea how to solve this?

I just spend the last few days using copy/paste to separate out the images into separate folder. Now my DB is only over 80mb only. However I have a different set of problem. The image folder size is now 4.33gb. Problem is the size on disk is 8.63gb. This is because there are a lot of files in it due to screenshots. I am sorry but I am not feeling nice wasting over 4gb of space. File system is exFAT. Not sure what to make of it now.

the copy and paste is not as straighforward as it seems. After a lot of crashes, I found that I can only copy and paste around 40 entries. Anything more will trigger "out of memory" error in PVD and crash the software. Before the crash, I noted less than 500mb of memory usage. I guess this is the limit of the copy and paste memory usage for PVD.

So now, with the help of Ditto clipboard tool, I am trying to copy the thing over faster.

i need to split out the images from the database to file. My DB size is 5gb. However, PVD have problem in splitting it up. While running the split, the memory usage keep on increasing until it reaches 2gb (limit of 32bit apps memory usage) and PVD crash.

Anyway to overcome this problem?

9,26 GB (9.953.931.264 bytes)

LOL...same question asked 3 years ago. Anyway, that thread does not have poll. I think it would be easier to visualize with poll. Not sure if moderator want to combine the threads.

Anyway, I know about seperating the photos from the DB. I have been doing that for the past 1 year. However, due to changes in my system recently. More notably migration to PVD portable, I had to combine the photos back into the DB. As I type now, migration to PVD is successful and I am now splitting back the photos out of the DB. The photos are stored in network drive. Hope this work without problems. I would have liked it even more if the .pvd file works also from network drive.

I have been using PVD for quite a while now. My pvd file which includes the database was around 500mb when I migrated from another software. It then grew and grew and never stop.

Now, it is at a whopping 4.9gb!!! I am very concern with how big this file can grow before things started to happen like slow down the managing the db or crash the system and so on. I would opt for separating out the pictures into different folder which shrink my pvd file to around 100mb but this have it's own pros and cons.

What's your PVD file size?

I can't test others now or provide the import details as I am at work now. Will update once I get back home.

I have been having problem coming to this forum for the past few weeks.

When I try visiting this forum, it takes long time to load and after waiting for like 30secs to 60secs, I get an error message from SMF saying "Please try again. If you come back to this error screen, report the error to an administrator.". Says Database error.

Here are some of the stuffs I tried:
- tried using chrome, IE and firefox
- tried clearing cookies
- tried clearing cache
- tried doing above from another PC in same LAN. Same error.
- my IP is banned?

I am now connecting using another PC at work and it works but still getting time out once a while.

All other sites are loading fine from my PC.

Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

I just updated to imdb plugin 0.9.8.13 and now imdb movies does not import properly. I only get writers, release date, actors and URL. The rest is not imported.

Where can I download 0.9.8.12 back while waiting for the fix? At least with 0.9.8.12, I only have problem with the Studio having some XML tag in it which can be easily removed.

Ivek, thanks to your quick response on this. However, using the latest script I am also getting "HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found".

The error is because of this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1606595/reference/technical
