I am getting "no movies found" from amazon.de.

It works for me—using 0.9.9.3. Maybe the 0.9.8.20 version of the plugin needs to be updated.

Still dont work

What, exactly, is it doing? Still getting the "No movies found" message? Can you update an existing movie? Will the same movie update if you delete the URL?

I think that i´m going to wait to the new version of PVD and new IMBD plugin, uninstall everything and start from zero again...what do you think?

You mean, "Give up"? Sorry, not allowed. ;)

Your previous messages indicate you're running 0.9.8.20, but you're quoting the plugin update for 0.9.9.3 beta. If you installed that, that may cause a crash. The updated plugin for 0,9,8.20 is on the download page.

Right now, the only real way to achieve the same functionality is to "save as" to a new file, then select and delete all the records I don't want.

I presume the "new feature" would make a copy of the file, permanently delete the unwanted records and resulting orphans, and compress the result. But this can already be done easily and with complete control over the process. So there's no need to wait for this feature to split a database. I agree this is a logical companion to the append function, but the ability to append is all we really need.

Using ADD I managed to get 2 movies from IMDB by pressing the import icon but still fails on most? Amazon posters still not working. IMDB was playing up for days then worked perfectly the day before yesterday. Now it is not. Maybe it is not a plugin problem? Amazon has never been a problem before.

Yes, your experience (and mine) suggest an intermittent problem with IMDb (i.e., something we can probably do nothing about). But that obviously doesn't explain why you're also having problems with amazon.

Just checking... both IMDb and amazon are still working fine for me.

If anyone experiences the "no movies found" problem while running 0.9.9.3, please post your log. The new log is much more detailed and may include some clues as to what is going on.

That's interesting. Both IMDb and amazon work for me now. If you are still experiencing problems, please post a log.

If my diagnosis is correct, we'll have to wait for nostra to fix it. If my diagnosis is wrong, we'll have to wait for nostra to figure out what's wrong, and fix that. ;)

In the meantime, existing movies should still update correctly. To add a new movie, you could use New (rather than New Movie Master), navigate to the IMDb movie page using Web Search), copy the URL and paste it into the URL field, then run the update.

I know. Hopefully it will be fixed soon. :-\

Thanks, Wanny. Welcome to the forum.

Existing movies will update, because the plugin is using the URL to go directly to the movie page. Without a URL, the search is immediately failing—thus "No movies found." It seems there must have been a change to the search part of the website that has "broken" the plugins (for both versions of the program). If so, nostra will have to update them.

Nostra?

Could source of problem lie with the IMDB site itself?

Welcome to the forum, omally. Yes, that's certainly what your information points to. Does it work now? If not, please restart the program with the -debug switch, try again, and post your log.

Sorry, I forgot you have to add the -debug switch to get that. Make a (or edit your existing) shortcut for the program. Right-click on the shortcut, select Properties, and add "-debug" to the end of the target string. It should look something like:

"C:\Program Files\Personal Video Database\viddb.exe" -debug

I have to add a normal field and decide if I make it visible/editable/etc.

I suppose if you don't foresee it being relied upon by some other feature (e.g., a script that needs to know the "correct" date/time last updated) it should be a normal editable field. Then users might change it to suit their own circumstances (e.g., changing a date to the future, so the movie is not selected for updating next time).

As I've mentioned before, I'm more looking forward to having such a field for people—so there is a way of selecting those likely in need of updating.

I will try to add the last updated field

Just so I can be satisfied I understand myself... :-\  I was assuming this would be a an "internal"  database date that you would make available for display, but I suppose it could be a field like any other that is updated when a plugin is run. Now I'm wondering whether or not it should be editable.

Since you're working on your list... I'll vote for this, and while you're at it, please add the Top 250 rank (that appears right after the vote count). And since both these change over time, this would be another good reason to make available the date the movie was last updated by a download.

For PVD to have any real chance of picking up all these files it would have to assume once one episode of a TV show has been found in a directory, then the other files in the same directory tree also pertain to the same TV show.

I wouldn't be very happy with that. Most of my episodes go into one directory until viewed, then deleted. If it's too difficult to code a scanner that can understand a variety of different file naming conventions, I'd rather one be imposed. Considering any of the possible sequences of characters that denote season and episode are very unlikely to mean anything else, would it not suffice that the title appear first, followed by the season/episode, and then anything after that is ignored?

Welcome to the forum.

The batch file is just starting the program with the -portable switch. You can do the same thing with a shortcut, and DOS window will not be created. If you were to create such a shortcut, would the PortableApps.com menu system recognize it? I suppose not, or you wouldn't be asking. Does this topic in the PortableApps.com forum help? They're talking about how the make Skype portable, but the issues seems to be the same—how to add a command line parameter to the program being started.

Welcome to the forum, Jan_Mel.

The "+" is particularly hard to find using a remote control. I've suggested a command be added to expand/collapse all collapsible fields at once—because I think that's the best way to deal with them using a remote. If such a command were available (in 0.9.9, it would be a menu item you could assign a keyboard shortcut and/or toolbar icon to), would you still want such an option?

In 0.9.9, the visual aspects of the information panels are controlled by skins. So, if possible, this option would best be handled by a skin parameter for the initial state of a collapsible field. Then it could be used to expand any collapsible field.

Scripts and Templates / Re: Exporting Episode Variations
« on: November 02, 2008, 05:35:00 am »
It's not possible with the current version. Otherwise, "not possible" is not the best choice of words, since anything is possible. But I'm not the one who decides these things anyway. I had noted...

Yes, indeed, but it is pretty difficult to make an export function that is able to export all episode information without making the whole setup very complex, so I thought it would be enough to export fields you mentioned above.

...which, being the words of one who sees the future, suggests to me a very low likelihood of this being possible in the next version. ;)

I think you have to accept the fact the episode management feature was designed for episodes, not for groupings of movies. It doesn't have to be used for series, but the main idea behind it—that episodes have a "child" relationship with their "parent, where common information is recorded—has to be respected. If you want exactly the same information from episodes as movies because the parent-child relationship doesn't exist or is not very relevant, then those episodes would have been better treated as movies in the first place. They could have been associated using a custom "collection" field used for the purpose of displaying them together as groups.

I see the function in question does allow you to export enough information about your "episodes" that they could be re-imported as movies. You could also include the current "series" titles of such collections, and import those to a new "collection" field for each movie.
