Support / Re: Reduce database size/bulk delete posters
« on: February 23, 2013, 07:40:58 am »
If you're not concerned about the number posters or their individual sizes, you won't achieve anything by moving them out of the database and into the file system. It will just occupy more disk space, be more error prone, and likely run slower.

If you were interested in reducing the number of posters and perhaps resize them, it may be possible to do so by exporting them (by changing the option to save them outside the database), deleting and resizing, then importing what remains (by changing the option back to save them inside the database). It's been a long time, so I'm not sure that will work. In particular, I'm assuming the image files will be named with some consistent prefix denoting the movie. If that's so, it wouldn't be that difficult to cull unwanted posters from the file system (by viewing large thumbnails), and then resizing the rest.

I might be missing something, but it might be worth a try—on a copy of your database. And perhaps test the last step before spending a lot of time in the culling. :-\

Let's review the basics. This is how I believe the program is working on my Win 7 computer...

On starting, it looks for pvdconf.ini in the Windows Application Data folder – C:\Users\Rick\AppData\Roaming\Personal Video Database. It will then try to open the [Database] recorded in pvdconf.ini. If there is no pvdconf.ini in that location, it will create a default one. The default database location is a subfolder of the Windows My Documents folder – C:\Users\Rick\Documents\Personal Video Database. The database can be saved anywhere; the actual location is recorded in pvdconfig.ini when the database is 'manually' selected from the file menu (e.g., mine is at C:\Users\Rick\Data\PVD).

If you walk through this for your own computer, you may discover why the program is having trouble. If not, the easy solution is to run the program in portable mode (maybe this the 'workaround' you're already using). Running the program with the -portable switch simply forces the program to look for pvdconf.ini in the installation folder, and to write it there if there isn't one. It will do the same with the database, but you can still open any existing database using the file menu (and then the location will be remembered next time).

I have created a mysterious white line around one section...

It's a section border. You'll have to place the imagelist in the main section to eliminate it.

Confirmed. Looks like a bug.

Check the search path setting at Preferences > File Scanner.

Development / Re: how does it work ?

It seems like I have all the colors for the list except the default black one :/

It seems there's a reason for that. The users sets preferences for background colours to be used for the item's status. When any item is selected, the program uses a darker shade, and changes the font from black to white. Perhaps allowing a variable light/dark font would help, but the dark skin creator already has a difficult problem—how to choose a set of 'dark' colours, each of which can have a darker shade, and all of which are distinguishable from one another.

I'm still not sure, but it seems the other question has to do with the border around the list and info panels. I've always assumed that, like other parts of the program UI, are Windows elements that cannot be changed by the program. Some can be changed by changing Windows settings. Perhaps others can be changed by hacking the program, but that seems like a bad idea. In any case, it's difficult to see how the skin engine has much to do with this—unless the 'improvement' is to make the entire UI skinnable.

I do have plans in extending the skin engine in future.

Here's my vote for the live WYSIWYG drag 'n' drop object-oriented editor for the entire UI. ;D

i specialy read the word currently  ;D do you work/planning on a better skin engine  for the future?

I have no idea what you're hacking or patching, or why. Perhaps you should try reading the manual before deciding the skin engine is not good enough. If all you're interested in is making an existing skin dark, you'll find it straightforward. Only the info panel is skinned. The appearance of the list can be changed via Preferences.

But my principal problem is that I can't import data from imdb. I click on the button on the top, and, usually, informations take place but since I've got the new version, nothing works.

Check that your IMDb plugin is up-to-date. Select (for program version 1.0.2.x, from the menu button on the title bar) Help > Check for updates. The latest plugin version is 0.9.8.12.

Updating scripts will have no impact on the IMDb plugin. If updating scripts fixed anything, it could only be one of the scripts you updated.

Is it possible to have the Genre field not collapse on the Movie Info screen?

No, not with that field type. You could reduce the font and/or give it the full width of the panel. ;)

So it must be the database, and it seems you have no backup. It's been a very long time since I've used gfix. When you used it, was there anything that suggested another try might help?

Does the error happen regardless of which and how many records are selected for export? If it occurs only with one or a few corrupt records, maybe you can find and delete them. Or avoid them and export the rest. The purpose of doing that would be to export all that you can, and then import that into a new database. :-\

No Idea why i can't export any list from database?

Sorry, I haven't a clue. Maybe nostra will, if and when he notices this thread. Meanwhile, you might want to try creating a new database with a few records, and exporting from that. If that works, it would suggest a problem with your database. If it doesn't, you could try the beta version. It has some rough edges, but more features and is just as stable.

So uhm... any suggestions from my previous post?

As I said, the IMDb plugin should get a poster for you. That's the main movie information plugin, not a separate poster plugin. Select 'Download image' in the configuration, and set 'Poster' in Overwrite Fields.

To use TMDb script, download it using the link Ivek provided and put it in your Scripts folder. I'm not sure if you have to, but restart PVD so it appears in your Import menu.

The following shows control and an imagelist placed under (i.e., in the same column as) a poster, to show thumbnails of additional posters. That's not what you want, but shows the use of imagelist. I suppose you would set the height and width higher, and put it in a column wide enough to display six in a row. Poster and the controls would still have to exist, but could be made small and placed elsewhere.

Code: [Select]
<row>
<column>
   <poster autosize="true" stretch="true"/>
   </column>
   </row>
<row>
<column halign="left" imgctrlcol="true" width="50">
   <prevposterbtn/>
   <nextposterbtn/>
   <addposterbtn/>
</column>
<column>
   <imagelist valign="top" halign="left" cheight="100" cwidth="75" autosize="true" space="10">
   <border shape="none"/>
   <color>$CCDDEE</color>
   </imagelist>
</column>
</row>

An alternative would be to use the screenshots container...

Code: [Select]
<section>
   <color>$000000</color>
<row>
<column>
<screenshots cheight="450" autosize="true">
   <border shape="none"/>
   </screenshots>
   </column>
 </row>
 </section>

Support / Re: File import from harddisk only with pathnames in movielist
« on: January 23, 2013, 03:01:59 am »
The file path is parsed to field values based on the regex included in your File Scanner configuration. The first regex in the list that matches the file path is used. In this case, you must have one that matches the entire path except for the extension to [Title]. The error might be as simple as .*\\ (meaning "any number of any character until '\'") missing from...

(?i)^.*\\(?P<title>.*)\..{3,4}.

Or the TheMovieDB.org script for downloading only one poster, if you wish.

Oops. I forgot about that one. Thanks.

I'm not sure which, if any, of the dedicated poster plugins still works. The IMDb plugin should get a poster. If you want a better quality one, the best source now seems to be TMDb. Unfortunately, the TMDb plugin will only get ALL the posters available for a movie, which isn't practical. If you run the data plugin, however, that will record the URL which is then available for visiting the site and manually choosing a poster.

Feature Suggestions / Re: Own lots of films that have more than 1 film
« on: January 21, 2013, 07:50:38 am »
Welcome.

I recommend recording the series or franchise in the otherwise unused Release field. You can then include it in the list title format. The context menu for the field (unlike other fields) has commands for selecting, sorting and grouping values.
