Support / Re: Msvcr80.dll then Runtime errors...
« on: February 21, 2010, 02:09:01 am »
I am not using any version of firebird actually.
....
So Nostra addressed my problem and after a few posting here he gave me the solution, put the 2.1 firebird files in my pvd directory.
This worked perfectly and i could finally open my database without Firebird.
Now with this new version of PVD it looks like the solution does not sort my problem (I'm getting an SQL error when opening my file)

Sounds like new version of firebird is compatible with old data files but old firebired is not compatible with new data files.

The solutions for which are
1) continue to put new firebird 2.1 files PVD directory
2) Convert firebird 2.1 data files back to older format
3) Nostra update version of firebird used in standard PVD package.

I suspect 1) is easiest till 3) is done (which I suspect will be required at some time for nostra's convenience)

I refreshed the search index, and it seems okay now.
Thanks, working much better for me now.

Do you have an import funtion? I can export a list of my movies in Excel or text format.

There is a menu called import, at the bottom of which cvs file and excel are listed.
You may want to configure these plugins first via
Tools -> Preferences -> Plugins -> CVS or MS Excel (as appropriate)

Most Important data to bring across would be
1) Movie identification eg Name, Year, url to preferred online database eg imdb
2) Path to where your copy of movie is (most importantly the file name as path can be updated)
3) Image files can be transferred but not as easily
4) Other data can readily be downloaded once in PVD

Search is not working well for me (It doesn't find any thing). Any others with similar problems?

I thought I found a replacement with PVD until i discovered, and read here, that it will not work on a mapped shared drive. I store my movie data on a shared drive and access it from at least two computers. I did see that you mention a server for this purpose but can not locate any information on just what it does....

The PVD Database needs to be on the same computer as the database engine (firebird) runs.
I think the movies files can be on a mapped drive (but have not tested that)

If you have a computer network with several computers accessing PVD, then a network installation works very well.
This involves putting firebird on one computer with the PVD data file.
Multiple users on multiple computers can then access this database via their own PVD instance.

Support / Re: 0.9.9.14 Replace folders in file path
« on: February 09, 2010, 12:22:45 pm »
Is it just me or does 0.9.9.16 have this feature too.

btw, if it still behaves the same, the config file cane be edited directly the achieve the same function (but perhaps not quite as elegantly).
Open "pvdconf" file in text editor
Find section folders parameters (with "[Folders]" as heading).
Change values of "FindFolders=" and "RepFolders=" to desired values

Note values appear to be a text field without quotes. Not sure what the field delimiter as I need only one find / replace.

Feature Suggestions / Re: Feature suggestions poll

So, let's try to contribute

Agree
Actually adding the poll to the original thread would have been sensible if it was possible as summaries can clearly be biased.

Please vote in my Dead Horse poll.  ;D

One thread per topic is more sensible than one thread per opinion imo.
My reading of buah original thread is he is not at all against making the dependency configurable, so the 2 polls are asking the same question.

Anyway, I don't mind if it would have to be even optional. That option would be checked in in my personal preferences, just like "Allow editing Rating in View mode" is, for instance.

These flags seam to generate a lot of controversy in pvd, both in name, intended, and desirable function.
As such increasing the configurability would be desirable, especially if any further interactions were introduced.
Maybe making the flag title configurable, and existing dependencies also would keep even more people happy.

Rick, your reactions I find sometimes really unexpected, and that confuses me a lot. Hence, I will retire for a while from corresponding with you.

It is an issue. I don't think there is a solution.

Conversion is failing on the time in the DATE ADDED field.  Go into edit mode, remove the time, save and duplicate to your heart's content.
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou.

Deleting the date & time didn't work as pvd kept the old value but deleting just the time fixed the problem.
btw I use 12hr date format eg "19/01/2010 8:41:41 PM"

Feature Suggestions / Re: Loading database when program is launched
« on: January 29, 2010, 09:09:35 am »
Anyone who is confused about which database is loaded when appears right in the titlebar is unlikely to be any less confused having to open one on their own.
The title bar shows file name without path making it ambiguous.

Anyhow, that is not the point. The issue is pvd could appeal to a wider audience if it was less confusing. And Rick you are a power user with experience which is unlikely to be replicated by most other users, which raises the possibility things you find second nature may not be obvious to others. We could find out by being open, you could remain unaware of the possibility if you are not.

On another note. The main problem with pvd not always opening the last database is how to handle connection via a server. It works well now as you connect once then pvd remembers. Needing to reconnect each time manually would be a big step backwards. A short cut to the database is not going to work as although pvd may be able to invoke a sever for remote databases, the need ia ambiguous for local databases

Feature Suggestions / Re: Collection Notes
« on: January 28, 2010, 09:42:07 pm »
Agree enhanced help would be an improvement. Not convinced local user maintained help is the way to go as shared knowledge is likely to be more valuable. Hence linking to online wiki imo is going to work better.

I can't think of why I would want a user note on database give I can already add info to windows file or create a separate text document with associated notes.

Interested to here what others think.

Would it be hard to add a toggle option in Preferences that would cause PVD to open with no database loaded (as opposed to always loading the last-opened database), when the program is launched from its own icon in the Start Menu?
+1

Agree this would decrease user confusion on which database is actually being opened. Several people I have recommended pvd to have been confused by this as users tend to make shortcuts to the program then have no idea what data is loaded.

Support / Re: 0.9.9.x File Scanner and Regular Expressions
« on: January 26, 2010, 12:38:04 pm »
My film only have one season. And parent directory name is film title. Not have any season number in path.

If your series has only one season then it is the first season. So name it
Bad Love E01E01.HDTV.X264.720p-Encoder.mkv
Bad Love E01E02.HDTV.X264.720p-Encoder.mkv

All will then run smoothly

this does not appear to be a solution in this particular case. Tethien also needs to respect the fact a season must be recorded
If this data exist in the file path then it does not have to be repeated in the file name (hence my request for him to clarify what his convention is and my example using file path information).

However I agree, in the long term it is likely to be much easier to name series files with Series name, series number, & episode number all in the file name as expected by the current pvd regex expressions.

I suspect the file renaming tools you use rick (bat file creation or Directory Opus) would help Tethien the most.

Support / Re: 0.9.9.x File Scanner and Regular Expressions
« on: January 26, 2010, 06:02:57 am »
I have a lot of TV series with only one season and the file name like :

Bad.Love.E01.HDTV.X264.720p-Encoder.mkv
Bad.Love.E02.HDTV.X264.720p-Encoder.mkv

This will not be recognized by the series scanner / regEx as it has no series number only an episode number.
To fix it you must first decide what you are going to change.
1) Rename your files to a standard format such as (a few other variants are also supported)
   <Series name> s01e01 <ignored text>.<std file extension>
Note this can be semi automated if you files already have some structure, alternatively pasting the correct prefix can also be fast for a few files.
2) Modify the regex expressions in PVD to match your convention. Doing this involves deciding what is unique/consistent about your naming convention which the pvd regex can look for. Bearing in mind you do not want PVD to start classifying all your multi file movies as series.
For example I file my TV series as
<series directory>/<series name>/s1/<approximate series name><series number><episode number><ignored text>.<file extension>
So if "/s1/" or similar is found one directory up from the media file, I can be sure this is a TV series and I only need to find the episode number in the file name. Note I do not expect you to have the same convention, but you will have to be clear about what your convention is (consistent across all files you will be scanning. Next you will need to read a little about regex, it is confusing at first but is an efficient text search language. I recommend making a text file with examples of all the file path & naming conventions used in your collection. You can then rapidly experiment with a variety of regex expression using a text editor supporting regex such as EditPad pro Demo.

I just imported hundreds of movies from external drives and optimized the process. I could give a short list/description for new users how I think it can be done efficiently (what works, what not in view of the results returned)
Yes
You could add it to the wiki, maybe near here http://www.nimidia.com/pvd_wiki/tiki-index.php?page=Importing-movie-details&structure=PVD-Manual

As for documentation, until nostra produces some, your only option is to read the various topics here and examine the skins others have done to see how things are done.

mmm
I tend to think nostra has more than enough to do already.
The alternative is we write our own documentation. Not that easy for the first to try but I'm sure it will gradually improve as we all add the bits we have worked out.
Also if you look at the stats, nostra even updated this more than most.

Conversion error from string "27/12/2009 12:14:31 PM"
Overflow occured during type conversion.
Error code: 14.

Occurs when try to duplicate a record for
"Cloudy with a chance of meat balls" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0844471/ http://www.allmovie.com/work/cloudy-with-a-chance-of-meatballs-474693
Linked to .avi or .mkv file

Initially it occured in my main database with existing .avi record & I  tried to duplicate so I could add HD .mkv record.
control-Delete then add new (HD) recored linked to .mkv file OK but same error when tried to duplicate.

Created a new empty database. Just added record for "Cloudy with a chance of meatballs (HD)" linked to .mkv file, again OK. But when tried to duplicate it I got the above error message.

Note:
I suspect it is something about the data which is retrieved which is causing the trouble as I have processed over 200 other records the same way without this error.
