I got this error using the IMPAwards plugin:

Code: [Select]
01/24/2009 02:29:20 AM: Searching posters for: Soldaat van Oranje
01/24/2009 02:29:20 AM: GET: http://www.google.com/search?q=allintitle:+Soldaat+van+Oranje+Poster+site:www.impawards.com&filter=0

01/24/2009 02:29:25 AM: HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable

The Google "Sorry" page says:

We're sorry... but your query looks similar to automated requests from a computer virus or spyware application. To protect our users, we can't process your request right now.

We'll restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again soon. In the meantime, if you suspect that your computer or network has been infected, you might want to run a virus checker or spyware remover to make sure that your systems are free of viruses and other spurious software.

If you're continually receiving this error, you may be able to resolve the problem by deleting your Google cookie and revisiting Google. For browser-specific instructions, please consult your browser's online support center.

Reading Google Help about this, it seems my IP address has been banned from making "automated queries." Deleting all Google cookies didn't make any difference.

If you do many searches google really blocks the queries. It seems like it is enough to wait a couple of hours to remove the ban.

That's what I would have thought from reading the help page, but the plugin search is redirected first time, everytime. I wasn't doing any searches before, and the ban (if that's the problem) isn't been removed in time. This started 12 hours ago; three days ago it worked fine.

Doing a search from IMPAwards, I noticed the Google site search results are now embedded in the IMPAwards page, rather than a separate Google page. Thinking the recent site redesign may have caused this problem, I made a Web search based on the current search URL...

Code: [Select]
http://www.impawards.com/googlesearch.html?cx=partner-pub-6811780361519631%3A48v46vdqqnk&cof=FORID%3A9&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=%s%u
I saw some promise in the fact a partner id is now used, where it wasn't before (i.e., maybe referrals from partners are not banned). Indeed, the web search works flawlessly, while the same plugin searches continue to fail. So this seemed like the solution, but then I tried the search URL the plugin is using as a web search...

Code: [Select]
Plugin search:
http://www.google.com/search?q=allintitle:[Title]+Poster+site:www.impawards.com&filter=0

Web search:
http://www.google.com/search?q=allintitle:+site:www.impawards.com+Poster+%s%u

It works flawlessly too. It's necessarily a little different than the plugin search, but I doubt that makes any difference.

Since deleting Google cookies makes no difference, I tried the plugin with Anonymizer—still no change. The problem is the same in both 0.9.8 and 0.9.9. And with that, I'm stumped. I can't imagine how Google is banning queries specifically from PVD, without using cookies and without my IP address. :(

At least now it's evident we have the same problem. :-\

And this seems to be true. As you can see from my last post, I could not work around the ban. When I tried the plugin now (for the first time since my last post), it worked fine. Apparently, the ban had been lifted.

So I ran it on a batch of movies, thinking that is the sort of thing Google is sensitive to. Sure enough, it found two posters, then returned the error on the third. But my log (attached) shows some odd behaviour by the plugin. After the first two movies, it executed the GET for the third 50 times in 44 seconds! No wonder Google banned me. :o

What do you think, nostra?

The problem is in the main application. It searches using original title first and takes title if nothing found by original title. Unfortunately if nothing found using title PVD does not stop, but searches again because of a mistake in the code.

I am sorry for this.
The problem will be fixed as soon as possible.

Please note you'll still experience the problem nostra has just found and not yet fixed—I assume the bug exists in both 0.9.8 and 0.9.9. When it happens, Google will ban you. I'm not sure how long the ban lasts—I see I'm still banned since my test of a little over 24 hours ago. So maybe restarting your router fixed some other problem, but I wonder if all you've been experiencing is due to this bug.

AFAIK, however, this bug consistently results in the "HTTP1.1 503 service unavailable" error. If you look in your log, you'll see this is a resulted of being redirected to the Google "sorry" page—the "ban." If you find this not to be the case, or you get invalid "No movies found" messages, please post your log.

If korbenPL uses a dynamic IP address supplied via DHCP then restarting the router could mean that a new IP address was allocated via DHCP and the new IP address would not (for now) be blocken by Google??!!

...hope this helps!

btw. I'm suffering from IMP withdrawal too!!

I've got dynamic IP provided.
every now and then the search gets 'stuck' on google before proceeding to IMP and the error pops up. so I get up. restart my router and keep searching for more posters from one and only IMPAwards. this quick 'fix' works for me and even though i'm aware of the faulty premise I just dont care any more ;)

I seem to be having a problem downloading posters from the IMPAwards site.  I cannot see anything apparent in the log but i get the "no movies found" message and no poster will download after selecting the movie from the list that pops up twice.  I tried the same movie in the beta version and it all works fine.  see log below

The IMPAwards plugin needs to be updated. The problem is that I have only written an update for 0.9.9.X beta.
An update for 0.9.8.20 will be available as soon as possible.

Is there an update for the IMPAwards plugin yet? (I'm using 0.9.9.x )

I'm getting the google error...

eg:
GET: http://www.google.com/search?q=allintitle:+The+Big+Lebowski+Poster+site:www.impawards.com&filter=0
Redirected to: http://sorry.google.com/sorry/?continue=http://www.google.com/search%3Fq%3Dallintitle:%2BThe%2BBig%2BLebowski%2BPoster%2Bsite:www.impawards.com%26filter%3D0
HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable

BTW, thanks much for this awesome application  :D

Welcome to the forum, pinch.

As you probably read above, this is a result of your IP address being banned by Google. It seems the ban is normally lifted within 24 hours. I assumed the error (repeating GET requests) that causes this had being fixed in 0.9.9.5—it's not happening to me (yet). But I don't use it regularly—I only just tested it now. Do you still have a log (it's replaced each time the program is started) that might indicate exactly what caused the ban?

I seem to be able to use IMPAwards again without problems... I've snagged 15+ so far. I wonder if Google unbans your IP after a bit if you don't keep hammering away with queries. I have a pretty good number of posters I need (initial db import) so I'll see if I get re-banninated. :-\
