Run in Linux using Wine
« on: November 17, 2007, 06:21:10 pm »
Your program is the best movie database around.

I have just made the step from Windows to Linux.

Is it possible to run the program in Wine?

It installs in Wine, but when I try to open a previous opened database it crashes.

Thanks

I have not tested it yet under wine, but I will.
Does it crash with some error message or maybe you get an error message from wine?

No errors, not from Wine or PVD.

But I going to test with different settings of wine and PVD. See if it will work then.

I have tested PVD under Wine a little bit. I will test it better. I will post a update then.

Here is a list of things that work or not:

This works:
+ plugins (movieinfo from sites and from file and picture import)
+ Options in options menu
+ GUI (looks the same, search function, move to people and back to movies)
+ statistics

This works not:
- Save and open database (when i save the file is not created)
- Insert pictures from harddisk

I had 1 error in Wine when I close PVD:
"access violation at address 0040CA45 in module 'viddb.exe' write of address 00000000

Without saving and only close the database will save it and open it when I open PVD.

PVD works perfect now in Linux under Wine, only a little bit slower then under Windows.

You have to set Wine to emulate Windows 98 :D.

Hello;

I have played and finally PVD (0.9.8.20) works under linux (SUSE 11.1).

Here is the way:
1. install wine (winehq.org)
2. run winetricks and install vcrun6 and vcrun2003
3. run PVD and enjoy

Only at the end of the great software an error message appear ("Access violation at address 0040D401 in module 'vissb.exe'. Write of adress 00000000.") - adress 00000000- funny  ::)
greets

I'm running PVD on Linux (so everybody can access the Database over Network).  ;)
Maybe someone want know how to run nostra's new versions (currently Beta state- 0.9.9.x).

Here is the way:
1. install wine (winehq.org)
2. run winetricks and install vcrun6, vcrun2003, ole2 and native_oleaut32
3. run PVD and enjoy

best regards

Hi, I've read this thread and done the winetricks-things, but when I start the program I get this error "could not convert variant of type (Null) into type (OleStr)". PVD then starts but I cannot add or view any movies. The import-feature seems to work well, but it cannot add any movies to the movie-list. Does anyone know how to deal with this problem? I'm using Wine 1.0.1 under ubuntu 9.04 and trying PVD 0.9.9.11.

Thanks for your quick reply! In my system32 folder I found all .dll-files except mpr.dll. I tried to copy that file to the folder, but that didn't help. Perhaps I should install some more packages, but I don't know which that should be.

I can also note that it is only in Windows 98-mode that I actually can start PVD, but that is perhaps as it should be. (There is also this runtime error 216 when I close the program.)

Any suggestions?

Hi,

when I run PVD under Wine (Ubuntu 9.04 - Jaunty), it runs since 0.9.9.14 :D, but with some Restrictions.
With Windows created Database file I copied (no backup-function used) let PVD crash under wine, when I open the file and click on movie.
When I create a new database and import new data from ofdb and imdb it works great. But the audio configuration for movie is not available.
For all, it's the best movie database I've seen. I've searched for Databases on Gnome Desktop, but I returned to PVD. Griffith is an alternate, but not good enough.
If you would change to Java, all problems disappear ;D. On all Systems Java will be there.
Thanks for this great movie-db.

Sorry, but changing programming environment and language at this point is too difficult and time consuming.
