[SOLVED] Searching Checkbox
« on: August 20, 2010, 12:56:30 am »
I recently created a custom field that is a checkbox.  When I went to advanced search and searched it allowed me to view any with a checkmark by searching -1.  How can I search for movies though that do not have a checkmark?

Set the value to 0 or use IS NULL

 Hi Nostra,

I take this opportunity to ask you a "side" question regarding the checkbox.
Would it be possible to batch edit a group of movies to tick that custom item checkbox to all of them?
I think it's not possible right now. Is it on your TO DO list or is it just not technically possible?
Thanks and sorry for posting that in this thread, I just thought it was not worth a new thread.

 D.

Multiple editing is allowed only for some fields and as I can recall, it was told that it'll be significantly improved in v1. You can do it right now by exporting entries to Excel, adding a column with the chekcbox with value -1, and then to reimport to PVD.

yes mutiple selecting is posible.
select multiple movies from movie list on left hand side (right click) and select seen/not seen, owned/not owned.
Can you rename skin values and use these as your custom field?

You can't change custom field value for multiple records in the current version of the program, but this functionality is planned for the version 1.0

Set the value to 0 or use IS NULL

I tried both of these methods today and when I used 0 no movies appeared.  I then tried IS NULL and got the error stating "conversion error from string 'is null' Overflow occurred during data type conversion.  Error Code: 14"
Does this mean there are too many unchecked movies or am I still not doing it right.  I am kind of assuming it's the latter.

What I meant with IS NULL is:
Click on the label with "=" sign and select IS NULL from the context menu...

It worked!  Thank you very much for helping me with that.

Hi Nostra, this one pops up all the time - new users don't know that this is  a selectable field.
As a user improvement maybe you could put a frame or something around it, to highlight that it is user selectable?

Yes, you are right. I'll add some bevels or smth in version 1.
