Automatic Update
« on: February 08, 2010, 11:51:31 pm »
The new automatic update feature in 0.9.9.16 doesn't seem to work. It downloads the updates to the temp directory, but doesn't unzip them to the installation directory.

Have you restarted PVD as it asked to?

Yes. And they disappear from the temp directory, but nothing is put in the installation directories.

Check permissions for the PVD folder and subfolders.

I gave "Everyone" "Full control" of everything, instead of just everything else. And, FWIW, I don't use UAC. It made no difference.

I see now the files are being "installed" to the temp directory (C:\Temp\Personal Video Database\Scripts), instead of my installation directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\PVD 0.9.9).

I hate it. Always some stupid bug sneaks into a release  :'(

I have updated the installation package one more time. You need to update the file pvdinst.exe. It can also be obtained separately here: http://www.videodb.info/bin/pvdinst.7z

Oh, suck it up! ;)

How's this for a test? I replaced pvdinst.dll and changed imdb.dll back to the old version. As expected, PVD detected an update for imdb.dll. From the time of approving that, to took 13 seconds to download the update and restart the program. This is going to save a lot of headaches. Good job!

I think Freud might have had an explanation of why you forgot to update the part of the program that now allows you to forget to update parts of the program. ;D
