Support / Re: File Scanner & RegEx Question....
« on: June 02, 2011, 07:30:09 pm »
If it helps any, this is how a lot of my stuff is named as far as file convention goes:

For the one I'm currently trying to scan, the files are named
<directory name is the series name>\<episode title>.wmv

For other series I'm trying to scan, I've already got the series info in the database and just want to connect the files, but when I burned the discs, I had to delete the series name so that it would burn on the disc properly. So that leaves the following format:

<Ep #> - <Episode Title>.mkv

I'd have to enter the series it connects to manually, or it would need to ask me which series to connect it to.

Okay, let me see if I can explain this. Right now I have a disc in my drive with 2 directories on it and each has about 16 video files in those directories. There are no numbers on the files, just file names as they were downloaded off someone's site and all are related to the person which the directory names. Now, like a few other programs I've used (and still use), I want the program to either take the files as a separate episode of the same series which I've either already highlighted or will enter once its scanned the files. Either way the files should be getting put under the same series, not as the same movie which is lumping all the files together. So far I've been doing this manually, but that is way too time consuming and I just don't have the time for it causing me to just skip some things because of that. (You try entering one in where you have 20 or 30 files there.) This is not only getting annoying but just taking up too much time. And I don't understand the format of the file scanner to do anything with it.

So the question is, how do I set this up to do what I need it to do?

Support / File Scanner & RegEx Question....
« on: June 02, 2011, 07:46:51 am »
Okay, I've looked over various things but the regex coding seems rather confusing... On some of my disks I have several video files that are related to a specific thing whether its a series, individual's website, etc and I have them stored in one directory. First, is there a way to have it take all the files under a directory and then put them all under either an existing or a new series? Second, is there any way to get it to ask you where you want the files to be stored under? Its kind of annoying having to figure out a code when I just want it to scan the files and put them under a specific location numbering itself if there aren't any numbers.

I also have discs for series with various episodes on them and the file scanner usually hiccups and won't let me connect it to the stuff already in the database.

No, they are not using the same naming convention. DVD+Rs and DVD-Rs. Um, what is regex? The scanner seems to work fine, but tries to assign all the files to the same episode, if that makes sense.

Support / File Scanner & RegEx Question....
« on: May 30, 2011, 07:59:51 pm »
I've got a question here... Oftentimes I will add the information for a TV series or movie manually and download the info from TVDB or whichever site I use and then scan the hard files later. Is there a faster way of doing this as opposed to having to go to each file and manually doing it? When you have large series that takes awhile. I notice that when I put a disk in the drive, and PVD is active, it brings a new menu up, but i have no clue what any of the options mean in relation to adding the stuff. I've clicked on the options before but they assign the info to the wrong record or seem to do nothing. How can I insert a disk with several episodes of a series on it, then specify which record they are supposed to be assigned to as well as getting images from them and such?

Thanks

Thank you, Rick.ca. That's exactly what I was looking for. Will this work for doing people? Can their names be highlighted in a commentary field to goto the actor's info sheet just like with the cast list? The reason I ask is because I'm going to try adding a memo section in my anime skin for the japanese cast list and want to be able to run links there as well.

Feature Suggestions / Linking between series, as well as movies...
« on: May 28, 2011, 11:33:16 pm »
How about being able to link from episode to episodes within a series or to another series? What would this be used for? Well, let's take the Star Trek example again, there are several episodes about the Q in the various series. So, what if you want to run a link from the first episode to the second episode, etc? That way you could watch the relevant episodes. Another way this would be helpful is for something like Babylon 5 where you have made for TV movies that are related to some of the episodes. (If I remember correctly, Well of Souls related to the first season episode about the Soul Hunters, for instance.)

Drat, that doesn't work very well. It only works for movies... I was looking for something I could link to different movies, but also to different episodes. For instance, say I am working on my Babylon 5 collection and want to post a connection from S01E10 to S3E15 because of a reference or tie in, that's one of the things I was hoping to be able to do. As it is, I can interlink movies, but can't do anything with the episodes. Well, at least it will link main things together.

This idea comes from one of the anime sites and I thought it was a rather good idea. What about having someplace where a photo and some basic info about the character someone plays is available in the people info? that way it makes it easier to narrow things down. For instance, you click on keanu reeves an it shows the parts he's played and the movies but it also shows a picture of what he looks like as neo and gives some basic info on who and what neo is.

Is there a way to link to other records in a database? For instance let's say I'm looking at the info for one movie and want to have a link to the next movie in the series, is there a way to do that?

Figures it'd be a setting somewhere. And here I thought I was entering the information wrong. Thanks, rick.ca.

Okay maybe this is a dumb question, but how do you get the cast and character info to display correctly? I can't seem to get pvd to display the actor/actress and the character he or she plays. Can anyone shed some light on how this is done?

Um, rick.ca that's a little to much to have to do just to use a different skin. Having to reinstall a program each time I want to use a different skin sounds confusing at best.

Actually it was more the case of trying to find something like a web editor so that you could lay things out visually like a web editor. Does pvd allow you to make changes in the skin while its loaded? The last few times I've tried I had to exit out of pvd and reload it before I could load the new version of the skin.

Ivek23 and Rick.ca, thanks for the help. I'll see what I can come up with using what you've told me. Right now I'm working on a skin that's designed specifically for anime lists. I'll also try those programs you suggested for xml editing.

Speaking of xml editing, I came across some freeware for xml editing that allows you to specify how the wysiwyg layout is for the file. I don't remember what its called but I'll let you know when I check my notes. It might be useful for visual editing of skins.

Feature Suggestions / connecting database file to specific skin...
« on: May 25, 2011, 11:49:49 pm »
It occurred to me the other day that having a specific skin load as default when certain databases are loaded would be a handy feature. After all, I have seperate databases for lots of things and would view each one using a different skin. Likewise there should be a way to attach specific custom fields to a database.

This would seem like the easy method: have pvd start a new data file which would store information specific for each database such as the skin used, custtom fields, etc.

I've actually gone over the skin manual several times and its missing somethings. For instance, I've noticed that movies edited can sometimes show up in different places than planned but don't know how that is specified. Likewise when you are designing the skin how do you specify how things are laid out during editing and how they are laid out regularly? Also, how do you use seperate custom fields? Say I want to add custom fields in places other than the custom section, how would I do that?

Scripts and Templates / Are there anime related skins...
« on: May 24, 2011, 12:51:01 am »
Hello,
I'm just wondering if anyone has done any anime-related movie skins yet. If not, I'm working on one right now.

And speaking of skins designed with a specific purpose in mind, are there other skin designed for a specific set of vids/dvds/etc?

*grumbles* That's exactly what I'm trying to do, to.

So as of yet, there's no way to do any of those things in the skins?
