Will gladly post my experiences. And after your critique, feedback and improvements integrate it into the wiki, that's a great idea!

ad 1. (not in search) Got it, thank you. Did not expect the "containing" to be clickable.  ;D

ad 2. (large/standard option) Also IMPawards. Right now, there is first the selection "which posters" and then - if available - for each poster again whether it should be standard or large. Lots of clicks. It leads to the user choosing the option silent download of all images.
But this is nothing of first priority, just another little extra.

ad 3. (reset search) Ok, got this one, too, thanks. Good Button. BUT it is not very intuitive: If you click on the right side of the internet search field, it means "go searching". Clicking to the right side of the database search field means "reset standard view". And both fields are next to each other, on the same line. Or is this just me?

Lastly, a short question. I just imported hundreds of movies from external drives and optimized the process. I could give a short list/description for new users how I think it can be done efficiently (what works, what not in view of the results returned) and I have some ideas for minor improvements. Would this be useful for anyone here?

I use the db for about 3 weeks now and I keep being amazed about its features. My latest "discovery" is, that it can multitask - I can delete movies while it downloads movie information in the background. Very cool!

Improvement-Ideas

1. NOT in advanced search
It would just be handy to have somewhere an exclusion, as all the other categories are positive and a AND already exists.

2. Option: Always download larger picture (where available) / standard picture
I think this would be a nice feature, reducing user input. And I guess many choose the same option for most movies.

3. clear filters should also clear search field
Ok., maybe I just did not figure this out correctly, but so far, I always have to delete the search field and then reset the search filters to get the whole selection of movies again.

Support / Existing Similar Entry Detected - Understanding the Options
« on: January 16, 2010, 09:48:24 pm »
Background to my question: I am pretty sure that I have the same movies twice somewere (on a different disc).
Upon importing movies, when a similar record has been found, the following dialogue pops up.

So here come my questions:

1.: This line describes the entry I would like to create right now, correct? But for what the ID number at the beginning?

2.: "Add new". Here a new entry will be created. I think I can just press ok. without having chosen this. If so, what's the difference?

3.: These are existing entries in the database. Are hidden entries included here? Also, some movies exist in several versions, for instance Thomas Crown Affair in a nineties and sixties version. I might have a dupicate to one or the other. What happens now if I select one entry and press ok. Is the original entry going to be completely overwritten or does the new entry just take the info from the exisiting entry? If it takes the info, will I still see where the old entry had been saved (for example disc G - otherwise I would still have the duplicate on the disc, but without entry to trace it. Also, I might have overwritten the sixties with the nineties version.)

4.: I don't think I have this movie ever imported. Why does it appear - is it one of the hidden entries?

I hope question 3 is clear, as this is my key issue here. I would appreciate any help.

I will in this case check back after the new version has been released. And thank you for the link.

When I tried the program for the first time, I almost skipped in since I found many (minor) german spelling mistakes in the menus. Also, the cases are sometimes not correct (depends sometimes on the context of the menu option). It left me with first the impression, that the program must be very beta. I was wrong in this, of course.

I would like to help correcting them. German is my mother language. What's the easiest way for you to implement such changes? A list like in the first post?

Feature Suggestions / Re: Rottentomatoes Scraper

I would also be interested in a rottentomatoes-scraper. What I also like about that site is that they sometimes succinctly sum up the critiques in one sentence. This would be nice to add as a "review-tagline". Just an idea here - I have to admit, that the allmovies-rating in my experience is already close to the rottentomatoe one.

Danke schön!

Oh, that's something I can provide - heavy duty importing¨ ;D

And I will certainly try to give meaningful feedback. But, at the moment, it's just perfect! Don't see anything broken or so. Quite the contrary, I love how it replaces the imdb tags with more meaningful ones. Tone and Mood (where available) are superb, too. Thanks again. I think I will head now to the donation page, if you will excuse me.  :)

Thank you for your answer! You seem to be a bedrock for this forum.

I obviously don't know enough to just ask a proper question. A follow-up one, if I may: So the script would need updating like any other, if the site allmovie changes? I ask to understand a little (little) bit better what's going on.

This modification just made my day! I love it.  ;D ;D

Does it work with any version of the allmovies.com plugin or does it need updating, too?
