Support / Language/Original Language
« on: April 29, 2010, 08:27:00 am »

I was looking at my stats for languages and found out that most of my movies had no "language" information.
However when looking at movie records I found a field called "Original language", and most of my movies have this info properly filled in.

If you look at the screenshot you'll see that I have two "undefined" groups for languages. In these group, the movies have an "original language" filled in. I guess it is not recognised as being the "language" field.
These "original language" informations are coming from imdb by the way, using the plugin.

Also if you look at the example you will see that the original language is Bengali but it is in the "afrikaan" group. I guess this means that there is in that record a "language" field, not shown on the movie card, containing "afrikaan" value.

How can I make this "language" field appear in the movie card? how can I check it is in the record? Do you know why it is called "original language"?

Feature Suggestions / Export statistics
« on: April 29, 2010, 08:14:16 am »

This is a non important request and might be put at the bottom of Nostra's TODO list but just in case there is an easy way to implement it...

What I'd like to be able to do is to export my database stats. The way they are presented is quite restricted and you cannot really manipulate them on screen.
If we were able to export them as Tab-delimited files then we could open them in Excel for instance and generate our own representations.
Actually the main point of this is that these stats are quite good to spot mistakes and holes in the data, like missing years, wrong genres and so on...

Support / Re: Exporting/importing my database
« on: April 20, 2010, 06:41:08 pm »

Thanks Buah for this info and for remembering my problem.
I have paused this process when I received from Nostra the hope that he might be able to "fix" my database file.
I am worried about the export/import process because I have so much data (700MB database file) that I am sure I will loose some in the process.
I am thus waiting for Nostra to destroy my hope or to make me happy.

If my hopes of a fix are destroyed I'll get back to this daunting task and will definitely use your tip!!
 Thanks again.

Have you configured the Excel import plugin properly?

It sounds obvious now that you say it... I' ll check that out and get back to you if problems.

Thanks

 Strange.
I have just tested it again, excel opens the file fine and displays the info related to the two movies of my test database.
Have you changed the extension to .xls?
I have just compressed it for you with Winrar (Then changed the extension to .zip so that I can attach it here), instead of changing the extension.
 Can you try again?

Also when trying to import it with PVD I don't get the error you are getting, but a crash.

Support / Crash when importing xls file
« on: April 01, 2010, 10:28:37 am »

I am working at exporting and re-importing my database in an attempt to fix the firebird problem we have already covered with Nostra, Buah and Rick.
I have created a test database of two movies and I am only testing a simple export import of these out/in pvd.
Exporting into an xml file goes with no problem but when I want to import it into pvd the databse just crashes on me.
I have no idea why so I am attaching the bug report here if it helps. I am also attaching the .xls file (I have changed the extension to txt so that I could attach it)

I have not yet updated to version 19 of PVD because this mean I would have to again manipulate firebird embedded files and all that mess I have to do with every new version of PVD.

May I add that this is properly scarying me, as I need to do this on a 700Mb database file with many many movies...
I would love to have Nostra help me fix the file instead...

 Hi Rick,

This scripts looks very interesting and I'd like to get these extra fields too.
Unfortunately, (and i'm a bit embarassed here... :-[) I can't get pvd to "recognize" the script. I must be doing something wrong.
I have extracted it into the "script" folder in pvd's directory, and it does not show up in the "import" drop down in pvd.
I even renamed it so that it would replace the allmovie original script and again it failed to show up.
 Can u help?

 Thanks a million.

Support / Re: Errors again after using pvdimport
« on: March 03, 2010, 10:09:44 pm »

Yes I mean I cannot connect to it.
Or at least this is what I think.
I basically open pvd.exe and as usual pvd connects to the last file it connected to, my pvd database. That's what it does everytime I open it.
What fixed this was the re-pasting of firebrd emedded files into pvd directory.
Is that clear enough or sounds too strange?

Support / Exporting/importing my database
« on: March 03, 2010, 02:18:51 pm »
In order to be able to use my database with no firebird issues, I am trying to follow Buah's suggestion and procedure
 (see: http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php?topic=1722.20    and   http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php?topic=1734.0)

At the moment I am stuck with import/export of csv or xls files.

I have created an xml file then converted it into excel file.

I have a few issues with this:

 -  The first column obtained is "movies". In this column all values are 5218 (number of movies in my database). What does this mean? Also, for importing back into pvd, what field should I choose?

 -  I guess "num" is the ID number?  Many of my movies are "0", is that OK or should I re-index everything?

 - What is "rip"? what field should I use in the import for this?

 - I have imported a lot of useful categories from Allmovie, they have not been exported into the xml file, how can I do that?

 - I have also created a custom field (box to tick) for "i want to watch", how can I get it exported as well?

 - Where are the screenshots exported?

You see, I am not even at the posters step and I have many issues, I hope you can help.

Thanks

D.

Support / Errors again after using pvdimport
« on: March 03, 2010, 02:05:05 pm »

 Hi all,

You might remember my previous problems with firebird files embedded (see my other posts).

After reading Rick's comments I decided to test pvdimport with j river media center again. It is now working quite well even though I need to perfect the process, fields, etc.
The problem is that once I have open MC and ran Pvdimport, I cannot open my pvd database anymore, I get the runtime library error again. :'(
This is with the latest firebird services installed and running again, by the way.

The solution is again to copy firebird's embedded files in pvd's directory...

I thought this behavior might help you (especially Nostra) understand what is going on with my pvd library file.
 I would love a fix.

While waiting for a fix, I am trying out Buah's suggestion of exporting/importing my database but it proves rather complex.
Please see my other post on the subject.

Feature Suggestions / Re: For XBMC some request
« on: February 24, 2010, 05:10:06 pm »

For your information, while waiting for a nice plugin from Nostra for export to XBMC I am using ember media manager to generate all the needed info for inclusion in XBMC.
I use a simple export from pvd that only export poster, imdb URL as well as original title.
Then Ember scrapes all missing info (it is SUPER fast) without me having to interact with it too much during that process.
That way I am getting fanarts that can look very nice in XBMC, as well as trailer links.

To be honest, on a daily basis I still use pvd to choose and watch my movies, as it is way more complete than XBMC which is mainly an eye candy. There is no easy way to search the data in XBMC and use filters and so on.

I'm only using XBMC when I want to "show off" with family and friends... ;D
The day pvd will offer a nice fancy theatre view I will definitely give up XBMC for my movies.

 Thanks,

wouldn't this mean that my posters would be "locked" outside of the database file?
Or can I then re-integrate them into a database file (the way I prefer them to be)?

Yes Buah I noted your suggestion.
My problem is that I am away from home for one week so I cannot do it right now. But yes I'm actually looking forward to trying that one out.
Can I ask you, do you think I should export/import with the same pvd version? And I guess between exporting and importing I should unsinstall/reinstall pvd, right?
I'll let you know how it turns out.

I did not get the error message you are describing actually (Specified file is not a PVD XML file), unless you are looking at the bug report, which I did not read in details.

 Rick,

You can find my reduced database file here: http://hotfile.com/dl/22931781/2213196/NOS_FILMS.PVD.html

It might help if you see if you can reproduce the problem on your side, or even examine the file.
Remember to disable firebird services when you try to open it.

Buah I did try in the order you suggested and that did not change the problem.
Neither the backup nor my database are opening with the current pvd17 version without adding the firebird 2.1 files.

Nostra, thanks for having a look, I really do hope you will give me a way to sort that out and not have to use firebird 2.1 files.
Just so you know, I can send you a reduced size database (10mb) (that behaves the same than my 600mb one) with which you can play if needed...

 Hang on....

I think Nostra must have changed something in PVD17 because I copied Firebird 2.1 files in the PVD directory and I can now open my database !

I can now open my database by using the old trick of placing 2.1 embedded files into the pvd directory.
Don't know if that's what Nostra intended in version 17 but thank you anyway!

Now still, I would like to be able to 100% fix this. What should I do in order to use PVD just as it is (without firebird 2.1 files) and my database?
Can I export it into a new file that I could then open with PVD wihtout the firefbird 2.1 files?

I hope this is not too messy and that we still understand each other...

OK I have redone everything and still get the error when restoring the backup.
The only difference is that instead of "found 8" it says "found 9"...

 Do you know why?

Just for info, I am using PVD17 now.

Buah you are right, I had installed firebird 2.1 and not 2.5. If I am right this should be the only mistake I made, right?
I will try to install 2.5 and do everything again and post the results.
In the meantime let me know if you think I missed anything else please.

Don't worry about offense, I'd rather get offended and solve my problems!

  To all,

Patch: Replacing firebird files by 2.1 files does not solve the problem as I am getting an SQL error when trying to open my database. It used to work with the previous pvd version.

Buah: I have installed firebird and re-installed pvd 16. The database opens fine, and I created a backup. Then I uninstalled firebird and PVD, re-installed PVD and tried to restore the previously created backup. I received an error message "expected backup version 1,2,3,4,5,6 or 7. Found 8."   Whatever that means....?

The conclusion here is that my database is at the moment unusable without firebird services running. Yes Rick I know the services are not particularly demanding but I am using pvd on two computers and really don't want to be running unnecessary services, especially on the one supposed to play high quality videos.
Also after trying a few time pvdimport and MC with no success I reported my attention to XBMC, which is not perfect but looks good for my wife and guests  ;) so I want to keep it for now.

Maybe Nostra would know what I need to manipulate in my database file in order to have it open without firebird, or with the 2.1 firebird files in pvd directory?
FYI, pvd16 opens my old database files (test files and so on) with no problem so really there must be something in the file.
I have posted a reduced database file in one of my post for you to test out. Let me know if you need it again.

If that is not possible, does anyone know how to import a pvd database into pvd? XML is fine but what about posters and so on?
I would not mind doing that. (I would use the old pvd14 to generate the export files and pvd16 to import them, is that possible?)

In the meantime I shall run firebird on both my PC's because I need to update many movies and enjoy the new features Nostra has designed for us all. :P

 Hope you can help.
